Miss Vera Decker has returned to
her home in Exeter after spending a.
week with relatives and friends at
Detroit, she also attended the •con-
ventlon in the interest of Hair
Dressing.
Mr. and Mrs, Milne Rader of
town entertained a number of relati-
ves and friends on Sunday afternoon
the occasion being Mrs. Rader's
birthday. A very pleasant time was
enjoyed 'by alit.
Mr. Victor Dinin motored to Crom-
arty on Sunday to visit with his par-
ents. His father having received a
minor injury while at work. Mr.
Dinnin's brother Harry from the
Guelph O..A.C. also has spent tho
week -end at home.
Mr. Dennis Corriveau or the 15th
Con., Hay sold his 160 acre farm to
Mr. Henry Schilbe of the same line
and who was bought out by the :air-
port. Possess will be given by
i,Iarch lst, and Mr. Corriveau will
likely hold a sale of his effects.
Word has been received here of
Mr. Hugh MacKinnon who is with
the Canadian forces at Halifax, that
he is now a Lieut, in the Navy which
is the equivalent to Captain in the
army in rank. He enjoys hiswork
very much.
Had Successful Tea
The Valentine Party which was
held in the Evangelical church base-
ment on Saturday afternoon proved
a decided success, the teapot invitat-
ions were yery attractive and in ac-
cordance with the ticcoraal-ons at the
church. The guests were ably re-
ceived by their hostesses, and the
amount received was $32. Miss rShir-
ley Krueger 'is he president of this
organization.
TO SEIZE CARS
Washington - Auto owners in the
U. S. who have not vital need for a
car received warning that they ;may
have to surrender their machines to
the Government for use by the arm-
ed forces or in essential civilian serv-
ices.
DIES IN 96th YEAR
One of Exeter's .oldest residents,
Benson S. Phillips, died at his. home
often an illness of seven weeks. Born
in Prince Edward County rie kale
to Iluron in his youth and for sonic
years farmed a mile and a quarter
west of Hensall, 34 years ago he en-
tered business in Exeter, retiring lat-
er. He was a life-long Liberal and a
member of the I00 .1VIFarried to
Annie Pearen who survives him. Al-
so by one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Hern
of Exeter and two sons, Wilbert of
Owen Sound and T. Herbert, of Van-
couver.
HURON IS BUSY
Canada's second loan campaign
swung into action on Monday morn-
ing and after weeks of preparab]on
the 26 canvassing 'disticts organized
in Huron are all keyed up, determin-
ed to do their bit. The quota for 1942
for the east half of Hay and Hensall
is $60,000; for the west half of flay
$50,000, making a total of $110,000
for Hay, Zurich, Hawaii. The quota

MORE GAS RATIONING
Ottawa -The sinking of tankers in
the Atlantic is a cause for concern
over future gasoline supplies in Can -
da, the munitions minister Howe, re-
marked, but he was still hopeful t he
rate of rationing announced to take
effect April 1 can be maint'anied.

the County Jail. It now costs 1614c.

Reynolds reports. He used to do it
for 11 cts. in depression days.
C. Tarlton, who for about ten yrs.
has conducted a meat market at Exe-
ter, is leaving to open up a refriger-
ator locker at Strathroy.
Kincardine now has only two doc-
tors. The third of the town's med-
ical men to enlist is r. H. 0. Lough
who has practised in Kincardine for
three years.
To Hold Spring Fair
Directors of the Seaforth Agric-
ultural Society, meeting to consider
the question of the annual spring
horse, show, to be held March 31st.
Smashes Pump
When the brakes slipped ona large
truck parked in front of I. Hudson's
store, -Seaforth, the truck rolled down
the street and crashed into a gas
pump in front of Daly's Garage. For
tunately there was no gasoline in
the bowl, but the pump was broken
off at its base and badly smashed.

At the recent meeting of the Tuc-
kersmith Township Councit,. Messrs.
Hugh Hill and J. C. Shearer attend-
ed th.e meeting, soliciting a grant for
the International Plowing Match to
be held near Seaforth this year. The
Council acknowledged their request
and voted a grant of $100.
Hurt in Crash
When his car crashed into a tree
as a tire blew out near,+,St.
an, D. D. Shannon, 40, REPO employee
of ,Seaforth, suffered serious injuries
Following medical attention he was
taken to Seaforth Hospital where his
injuries included a' crushed chest and
shock,..
Pastor Joins Army
Rev. Frank A. Gilbert, pastor of
the United Church at Walton, who
was called recently to service as
chaplain in the army, left to report
for duty in Kingston. He has been at
Walton for the past two years,
Newspaper Editor Dies
Arthur R. Kennedy, 62, manag-
ing editor of The Prterboro Exam-
iner for the past six years, and one
of the best known newspapermen in
Ontario, died Dec. 24th. Born in
Parykill, his daily newspaper expel'.
