The South Huron senior foot-
ball team came close to the
Huron -Perth Conference champ-
ionship for the second straight
year.
The Panthers scored 12 points
in the first few minutes of Sat-
urday's Conference final in
Stratford but couldn't hold on as
Central Huron roared back to win
17-12.
A year ago at the same ball
park, the seniors lost in overtime
after missing a good scoring
chance in the dying moments of
regulation time.
After the game coach Ron
Bogart said, "1 contemplated
retiring from coaching if we
had won, but 1'11 probably
be back because 1 hate quitting
as a loser."
Bogart added, "I've been at
it now for 17 years and each game
"the ulcer" seems to flare up a
little more."
On the field, the Panthers
held an edge on Clinton every-
where except on the scoreboard.
Backfielder Doug Mcisaac
turned in an amazing, perfor-
mance by gaining 182 yards in
23 carries. This was 69 yards
more than the entire Clinton
team was able to pick up along
the ground.
Brian Taylor was next in line
along the ground with 74 yards in
18 attempts.
South Huron gained 303 total
yards as compared to 191 by
Central Huron and led in numb-
er of first downs 18-9.
The Panthers wasted little
time getting on the scoreboard.
On the first series of play, Clin-
ton was forced to kick and Steve
Knight took the punt on his own
36 yard line and with the help
of two great blocks went all
the way for six points.
Only a few minutes later,
great blocks by John Gould,
Steve Pfaff and Perry Kneww
allowed Doug Mcisaac to ramble
for 70 yards before being hauled
down on the Clinton eight yard
line.
On the third 'play from this
point Mcisaac barrelled over
and the Panthers were 'ahead
12-0.
Clinton came back with a
converted touchdown in the first
quarter and two single points
in the second.
