Visitors at Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Schwalm with Mrs, Daisy Ivey and Mrs. Elizab- eth VoEland were Mr. and Mrs. John Raven, of Sea - forth, Ralph, Harry and John Otten, of Seaforth, Mrs. Andy Dougall and Helen, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Alec Hyde, Kippen, Mrs. Pearl Shaddick, Mrs. Audrey Christie, Mrs. Mable Parke, Mrs. John Skea, Mrs, Madel- ine Harburn, Mrs. Irene Finlayson, Mrs. Mona Clark,. all of town and Mrs. Vera Johnston and Leota of Bruce - field, Mrs. Marjorie Windover has returned home after spending the past week visit- ing with George and Marj- orie Grant in St. Anne's Place, St. Thomas. ST. PAUL'S A.C.W. St. Paul's A.C.W. held their autumn meeting at the home of Mrs. Windover on Thursday afternoon, Sept- ember 11, The Vice-president Mrs. F. Forrest opened the meeting with the members prayer followed by the devot- ions from the Living Mess- age. The scripture reading was taken from Luke by Annie Read, Olive Petty gave the meditation and all the members took part in the Lit- any. The minutes were read and approved. A Letter was read from Ven. G.T. Kaye thanking our group for the boxes of clothing sent and from Mrs. Anderson, a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, fdr the plant. The study book "Don't let resentment ruin the family," was given by Helen Roberts. It was decided that donations will be grate- fully received by the next meeting instead of having a bazaar and bake sale. The meeting closed with a poem and a prayer. UNIT I OF U.C.W. Unit I of the UCW met on Thursday, September 11 with Audrey Christie presid- ing. After her opening thought we sang Hymn No 206. Her devotional theme was "Try giving yourself away." You cannot give yourself away, without getting back more than you give, if in giving, you have no thought of reward. The theme was continued by prayer and the singing of "Take my life and let it be." Minutes of the June meeting and the corresp- ondence were read. • Roll call was answered by 12 members. Audrey Joynt read three letters from our adopted girl in Burma, and we gave our monthly donat- ion, and Christmas gift for her. The offering was given and dedicated by Audrey Christie. Mildred Kyle had an interesting study on "Mission in the home." Parents may practice mission in the home by listening and giving loving answers to questions during family discussions. We should .be better listeners, so our family may feel confident. We may learn from our children, when their thoughts and opinions are different from ours. Audrey thanked Helen Goddard for being our pianist and, all the others helping with ' the meeting. After her closing thought "The 'use of life, is to spend it for something that will outlast it" we repeated the Benediction. Julene Keys had an interesting contest after Zurich Citizens News, September 18, 1975 - Page 3 which our hostesses Audrey Joynt and Ilene McLean served a delicious lunch. Service at the .. United church was conducted by the Rev. Don Beck with Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ. The sermon "Give Him a hearing!" was based on John 7:37-52 and the choir sang the anthem, "I have decided to follow Jesus." The Sunday School met during the latter half of the service. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The Women's Institute met in the Legion Hall on Wed- nesday evening, September 10 for a delicious pot -luck supper convened by hostesses Hilda Payne and Gladys Coleman. Following this the meeting was held with President Hilda Payne presiding. Roll call was answered by bringing an article from another count- ry and explaining its use. Financial report showed a balance of $102.64. A letter of resignation from Lois Shapt- er was read, which was accepted with regret and it was decided to send a small gift to show our appreciat- ion of participation in the Institute. Joyce Pepper was installed as Vice-P,resident and Marg Ingram as convenor of Education and Cultural Activities in Lois's place. Other correspondence dealt with the County Rally on October 6, at Belgrave, Huron County Historical Society meetings on September 16 at Blyth and a Crediton on October 15, and letters of appreciation from Nan Britton and Nancy and Barbara Mc- Curdy. In other business the members agreed to serve coffee and cookies at the re- opening of the Town Hall and Library on September 25, voted for Joyce Pepper as delegate to the .London Area Convention at St. Thomas, on October 15 and 16, and were informed we had leaders for the 'girls 4-H Club. The resolutions to be discussed at St. Thomas were discussed and voted on and final plans made for the exhibit at the Fall Fairs. Joyce Pepper and Hazel Corbett conducted the prog- ram which consisted of a sing -song, accordion and piano selections by Brenda Pepper, and everyone reading a clipping on a recent current event. Hazel Corbett read an article. "Sisters." Courtesy remarks were given b;,' Hazel Corbett and the meeting closed with "The Queen."
