Their blue grass music proved to be a pop- ular hit with the younger group. Officials report close to six thousand dollars profit from their venture. News of Varna Area Several girls from Varna took part in a fashion show which was presented by the Grade 7 and 8 girls of Huron Centennial School. It was held on June 11 in the school auditorium. Com- mentators for the show were Julie Armstrong, Dianne Wilson, Jane Allen and Laura Taman. The clothes they modeled had been made in their home econom- ics classes under the supervis- ion of Mrs. Ila Mathers of the Seaforth School. For many it was their first attempt at sewing, and most of them did excellent work. Shown were slacks for all occasions from dressy to casual, and in fabrics ranging from polyester and corduroys to brushed denim. DASHWOOD Phone 237-3381 or 237-3422 varying from well above the knee to mid-calf. One girls wore a two-piece floor -length gown suitable for the most dressy occasion. Blouses and pant - tops were also shown and quite a number of smock tops. many of them in a short, cool style for hot weather. Gingham was favoured for dresses. There were a few bib overall style slacks which were very att- rative, especialy one made from a bright red fabric. Midway through the show three of the girls, Charlene Coughtrey, Julie Armstrong and Ruth Gingerich provided a delightful musical interlude. On display, also, were handi- crafts such as smocked pillows, pottery and preserves. The boys also showed lamps. ashtrays, etc. they had made. Light ref- reshments were served to the guests after the show. BRIDAL SHOWER Members of the Varna UCW and the community held a shower for bride -elect Linda Voisin on June 11 in the township hall. Mrs. Bev Hill, Mrs. Tom Consitt and Brenda Dawson presented an amusing skit, and Mrs. Robert Webster gave a reading. Sylvia Wilson danced the Scottish recruiting dance. A Bride's Bingo game conducted by Mrs. Eric Chuter was won by Mrs. George Wislon. Kathy Taylor read the address to Linda, and she was presented with many lovely gifts. Mr. aqd Mrs. Carl Kuhl are holidaying at Gogama, where they used to own a fishing lodge and cabins. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Chessell were guests at the Andrews - MacDonald wedding in Clinton on Saturday. On Sunday they and members of their family from Stratford, including Pau; 's friend, Mis Sheila Smith, visited Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson and Sharron of R.R.2, Auburn. Some of the family also spent a couple of hours with Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson and family.. The Dowson family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dowson and family on Sunday to celebrate the 35th wedding anni- versary of Mr. and Mrs. George Dowson of Hensall.
