Zurich teams visit Garden City
The Atom, Peewee and
Bantam teams returned to
Graden City, Michigan last
weekend for their exchange
hockey tournament.
Each player was presented
with a crest from their hosts.
The American flag was present-
ed by the Garden City Youth
Association to the youth of
Zurich, Ontario.
Bantams split

The Zurich Bantams were
defeated in their first game
by the Garden City Bantams
4-2. Each team picked up one
goal apiece in the first period.
Zurich's goal was scored by Tim
Smith unassisted. Garden City
scored two more goals in the
second, while Zurich notched
one goal by Jim Oesch assisted
by Larry Pole.

In the third period Garden
City scored again just before
the buzzer, to make the final
score 4-2 for the host team.
In the Sunday afternoon game
the Zurich Bantams came back
to defeat the Garden City team
by a 4-0 score. Grant Love
assisted by Ivan Bedard and Ken
Oesch opened the scoring.
Zurich scored again in the sec-
ond period on a goal by Grant
Love, assisted by Steve Graing-
er. Steve Grainger scored two
more goals in the third period
to give Zurich their 4-0 win.
Peewees close
GARDEN CITY 3 - ZURICH 2
In the first game, Zurich
carne up a goal short, but
nearly scored the equalizer at
the end of the game. Garden
City started the scoring in the
first period by Justin, but before
the period ended Kerry Bedard
tied the score with an assist
from Kris Bedard. There was
no scoring in the second frame,
but in the third, Garden City
came up with two quick goals
by Justin and Orr. Zurich rall-
ied near the end on a goal by
Robert Willert with assists
going to Pat Regier and Kerry
Bedard.
ZURICH 4 - GARDEN CITY 3
On Sunday, Zurich came up
with a much better and faster
game, with a win for their
efforts. Mark Regier banged in
the first goal, assisted by Rob-
ert Willert and Kerry Bedard.
Next Bailey scored for Garden
City but before the period end-
ed, Kris Bedard notched a goal,
with the assist going to Jeff
McKinnon. Garden City manag-
ed all the scoring in the second
period with goals by Timcoe
and Pavelka, but Kerry Bedard
got two big goals in the last
period, assisted by Kris Bedard

Zurich Peewees in finals
The Zurich Peewees and
Honeywood are currently battl-
ing in the OMHA Peewee "D"
semi-finals, and both teams
and Jeff McKinnon, giving
Zurich the win.
This ends the exchange visit
between the Peewees with each
team having two wins and two
losses.
Atoms tie, lose

On Saturday, March 8, the
Zurich Atoms went to Garden
City. All the players had a
wonderful time with their new-
found American friends. The
hosts kept the players well fed
and well occupied.
The first game was held at
the Garden City Civic Arena at
4 p.m. and ended in a 3-3 tie.
Zurich scored three goals before
Garden City scored. Mark Kirk
opened the scoring at 7:03 of
the first period followed by
David Erb from David Smith
and Paul Johnston. Then Paul
Johnston moved the mesh on a
penalty shot.
Garden City carie back with
three unanswered goals. Mike
Ilodge started the scoring for
Garden City at 11:18 of the
second period. Jeff Zywick
scored next from Cam Mc-Caus-
land and Bill Branoff. Mike
Hodge put the final goal of the
game behind Greg O'Brien at
8:58 of the last period.
In the second game Garden
City defeated Zurich 4-1. Cam
McCausland played a great
game getting a hat trick. Mike
Hodge scored the other goal
for the Garden City Green
Hornets. David Smith scored
the lone goal for Zurich,
Gordon Love and Brian Horner
picked up the assists.
The whole hockey exchange
proved to be exciting and
rewarding for all concerned.
We hope that the next hockey
exchange is as exciting and as
enjoyable as the first one.

Last week in Honeywood the
locals lost a thrilling 2-1 contest
and then back in Zurich
Tuesday night they turned the
tables on the northerners edg-
ing them 4-3.
Third and deciding game in
the series will be played to-
night (Thursday) in Honeywood,
beginning at 7:30 p.m. The
Peewees would appreciate a
group of local fans accompany-
ing them to this game, offer-
ing vocal support to their eff-
orts.
Kris Bedard, with two big
goals, led the Zurich attack on
Tuesday night, while Mike
Haggitt and Jeff McKinnon
each scored one.
HONEYWOOD 2 - ZURICH 1
The first game in the best
of three series was played at
Honeywood Thursday, March 6,
with Zurich looking a little
tired as they lost in the last
few minutes of play.
There was no scoring in the
first period, but Kris Bedard
blinked the light before a min-
ute had passed in the second
period on a solo effort. Rigney
scored unassisted for Honeywood
and sparked the attack for
Zeggil getting the winner with
about a minute left in the game
