(by Susan Parke)
The Zurich OV 4-H Club
held their first meeting, Wed-
nesday, February 19, at 7:30
at Agnes Lampieres. The club
is called 'What Shall I Weat?"
Everyone is supposed to make
a blouse. We opened our meet-
ing with the 4-H pledge. We
elected Brenda McKinley as
president and Susan Parke as
press reporter.
We discussed a name for our
club and also we are going to
the Ice Capades. We discussed
what a sewing box consists of
and how to choose and adjust
your wardrobe.
We then answered the roll
call and our meeting was adj-

We have in this column and
elsewhere strongly been advoc-
ating the preservation of food
producing land, because we
found it immoral to destroy it,
as long as other people are
starving. We still hold that view
but a few reservations have
crept in.

Th'e four 4-H Club was held
at Cathy Hamather's home at
7 p.m. on February 24. We
started the meeting with the
4-H Pledge. Pam O'Brien read
us the minutes and moved by
Lesley Hogg. For the rest of
the meeting we worked on our
sewing samples and patterns.
The next meeting was to be
held at Cathy Hamather's at
7 p.m. on March 3.
public support for this cause,
we were told that support was
obtained from the labour move-
ment, from the Consumers
Association and from Mrs.
Plumtre of the Food Prices
Review Board. That is where
the reservations crept into my
mind.
Let's look at them one by one,
First the labour movement.
Yes, I believe they want to
preserve land, but I don't bel-
ieve that they are so concerned
about the starving foreigners.
Harsh judgement? Yes, but
look at the facts. When ships
are lying in Vancouver Harbour
to be loaded with grain for
Bangladesch and a strike by
labour prevents the loading,
they are supported by the labour
movement, regardless that
thousands are dying in far count-
ries because they have a right
for a dollar an hour more, so
they can buy a late model car.
They use these unfortunates
as a lever for a higher income.
They want to preserve food
producing land, so we will
have over -production and they
will have cheap food. Of course
I accept those who are sincere.
The Consumers Association, as
well as Mrs. Plumtre are only
thinking of cheap food and the
pious statements that they want
the farmer to have a decent in-
come does not mean a thing.
They have shown their disint-
erest and even their opposition
to farmers getting a decent
income too often to be believed,
Why else the vicious attacks
on marketing boards, which is
nothing more than us getting a
decent income. They even
begrudge us our cost of product-
ion. In the meantime we can
work together to convince the
Ontario government that gener-
ating stations should not be
built in Southern Ontario, but
let's not forget their motive.
I read in the paper that Kent
county citizens protest a gener-
ating plant. They are right, it
doesn't belong in Southern Ont-
ario. If no plant is built it mean
transmission lines from outside.
If it is built it means transmiss-
ion corridors fron inside.
