At last the January thaw has
come and there are many pleas-
ant faces as the water shortage
was facing several fanners and
some were already hauling wat-
er for their stocks.
A number of villagers att-
ended the funeral of the late
Narcisse Cantin at the French
settlement this Wednesday
morning.
Harry Hoffman has purchased
the funeral stock and equip-
ment of the late Peter Mclsaac.
Miss Pearl Harpole, of Hen-
sall is spending a few days with
friends in Zurich.

Henry Neeb has been a pat-
ient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Miss Jean Krueger has receiv-
ed her registered nurses' degree.
Mr. and Mrs. William Rei-
chert have moved from their
farm home near Hillsgreen to
their residence recntly purchas-
ed from Mr. J.W. Horner.
John Penhale, who is in res-
idence at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Flaxbard, had tw o
fingers taken off his left hand
last week.

Reeve Glenn Webb, of
Stephen Township received a
majority of votes at Tuesday's
session of county council and
was named warden for 1965.
The Township of Stephen is
to have a new central school
and the School Area Board has
every hope that it will be comp.
leted in time for the 1965-66
school year.
Mr.. Sim Roobol received
a cablegram Monday morning
informing him of the sudden
c'eath of his mother, Mrs. J.A.
Roobol, 87, at Oud-Beyerland,
Holland.
Mrs. William Reichert, the
former Lauretta Fuss, passed
away, January 18, 1965, at
South Huron Hospital.
George Farwell, 18, Zurich
suffered a broken leg while
skiing at Pinery Provincial
Park, just south of Grand Bend,
last Saturday.

Thirteen tables of euchre
were in play last Monday night
in the Township Hall, sponsored
by the Zurich Women's Institute
Prize winners were; ladies
high, Mrs. Claude Gelinas;
ladies low, Mrs. Ferd Haberer;
Men's high, Herb Klopp,
men's low, Ferd Haberer
Lone hands, Joy Cleave, near-
est birthday, Mrs. Norman
Gascho.
The next euchre will be
held in the Township Hall on
February 10.

Zurich Peewees end tournament
The Zurich Peewees gained
B-3 Runner -Up Trophy at Wat-
ford Silver Stick finals this past
weekend.

On Saturday, January 18,
Zurich managed to eke out a
win in the first period of over-
time when they had played less
than a minute, thus gaining a
berth in the finals on Sunday
morning against Belmont.
The first period saw Zurich
gain a two goal lead when
Kerry Bedard scored from Robert
Willert,and Jinn Willert scored
on assists from Jeff McKinnon
and Len VanWonderen. Then
Watford got on the score sheet
before the period ended. Kerry
Bedard scored again in the sec-
ond period on a play from Jeff
McKinnon, but Watford carne
right back with another goal.
In the third period Kris
Bedard, put Zurich out front
4-2, but Watford rallied witha
pair of goals to tie the game
and send it into over -time.
However, it was hort-lived
when Kerry Bedard scored from
Kris Bedard.
FINALS
BELMONT 5 - ZURICH 3
On Sunday, January 19, the
peewees gave their best efforts
but failed to take the group
B-3 Championship from the
strong Belmont crew. However,
Kerry Bedard brought home a
"Most Valuable Player" trophy
for his efforts and the team
gained the Runner -Up B-3
Trophy in which 18 teams were
entered.
Belmont started the scoring
in. the first period, but Kris
Bedard, on a solo effort tied the
score. Then Belmont added 3
more goals, before Jim Willert
surprised the goalie with a high
shot from near centre ice with
Jeff McKinnon assisting on the
goal.
The third goal for Zurich
came late in the last period,
when Robert Willert, after just
leaving the penalty box, picked
up the puck and beat the goalie
who was racing out for a save.
However, Zurich's efforts were
squashed when Belmont added
their fifth goal in the dying
minutes of play.
ZURICH 6 - HENSALL 2
On Wednesday, January 15,
Zurich defeated Hensall 6-2.
Hensall started the scoring on
