Mr. and Mrs. Norm Talbot
visited Tuesday with their
son, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Tal-
bot, Deanna and Marshal in
St. Thomas. They also called on
another son, Mr. and Mrs.
David Talbot, Lea Anne and
Christopher in London.
Mrs. George Reid of Varna
is spending some time with her
sister, Mrs. L.B. Smith.
Mrs. Myrtle Pease and Irvin
spent the weekend at their
home here.
Mrs. Norma Stewart of Ripley
visited her sister, Mrs. Milvena
Erickson on Tuesday. She was
accompanied by Mrs. Janet
Kempton from Amberley.
Mrs. W.E. Morley of Cleve-
land, Ohio, has spent several
days at her home in the village.
Dr. and Mrs. Bill Tillman
and family, London, were in
the village on the weekend.
Mr. Ray Schell, Mr. and
Mrs. Norm Talbot, Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Talbot attended the
Golden Wedding Anniversary,
of friends, Mr. and Mrs. Doug-
las Hoover, in the North Nor-
wich Public School in Burges-
ville.
Congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Eckert of Clinton
on the safe arrival of their son,
Bertram John.
Mr. and Mrs. John Boyes
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wal-
ter Erickson and family attend-
ed a family reunion in Clinton
at the home of Mrs. Marie Eck-
ert in honour of her new grand-
son, Bertram John. They had a
special thrill as there were four
generations on both sides of the
family. As Mike and Janet
both came from Bayfield it is
interesting to note the four
generations were: Mrs. Marie
Eckert, her father, Mike and
Baby Bertram. Also John
Boyes, his mother, Janet and
Baby Bertram. Congratulations
to all.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Casler
from Lansing, Michigan, visit-
ed Mr. and Mrs. Norm Talbot
and treated them to a chinese
dinner at the Canton Restar-
rant, London in honour of Mr.
and Mrs. Talbot's 38th Wed-
ding Anniversary.
ANGLICAN CHURCH
Trinity Anglican Church
Guild held their annual tea and
bazaar in the Church with Rev.
Wm. Bennett opening the
festivities with prayer at 2:00.
Mrs. Vera Turner, Mrs. Gail
King and Mrs. Vina Parker
served tea, while the other
members worked at the differ-
ent sale tables and served dain-
ty refreshments. There was a
wonderful response from the
village people and was a decid-
ed success, and the Guild mem-
bers wish to thank everyone.
BAPTIST CHURCH
Bayfield Baptist Church held
their regular services Sunday
with the pastor, Rev. Brian
Harrison in charge. The morn-
ing sermon was based on the
first chapter of Acts, verses
1-8.
After the evening service a
"fireside" hour was spent in
the Sunday School rooms, with
light refreshments being serv-
ed.
The Christmas meeting of the
Baptist Women's Missionary
Fellowship will be held Tues-
day, December 7, at the home
of Mrs. Janet Talbot at 8 p.m.
There will be pan exchange of
small gifts. All Church women
are invited.

United Church and the mem-
bers are asked to remember the
White Gift Service to be held
December 12, a pot luck lunch
will be held following this
service, also the Sunday School
Christrnas Party. The annual
Candlelight Service will be
held in the Church December 19
at 7:30 p.m.
Ever Young Club
invited to Varna
The Bayfield Ever Young
Club met in the Municipal
Building on Tuesday night with
30 members answering the roll
call. Tickets were sold for the
annual Christmas dinner being
held in St. Andrews United
Church on December 2. This
will be the last meeting of the
Club until January. The lucky
ticket for the afgan will be
drawn at the dinner.
More names were 'suggested
for the Senior Citizens Apart-
ments: Lakeview Lodge, Lake-
view Manor. Lakeside Manor
and Clan Gregor Court. These
will be given to the proper
source for a decision.
Happy Birthday was sung to
Mrs. George Brown.
The Bayfield Club has been
invited to be with the Varna
Seniors on December 15 at
2 p.m.
After the meeting was ad-
journed euchre was enjoyed
by all. The winners were as
follows: ladies' high, Mary
Clark; men's high, Ken Lynn;
ladies' low, Lenora Orr; men's
low, Clinton Gibson; lone
hands, John Lindsay.
The evening ended with a
lovely lunch.

Local grants
M.P. Bob McKinley announced
on Friday the issuance of grants
to Huron under the Local
Initiatives program totalling
$76,940.
ARC Industries at Dashwood
will receive $10,200 for the job
placement and procurement of
the handicapped. The project will
employ three persons.
Five persons will be employed
on a Huron County Beautification
Program through $15,300 in LIP
funding. Another three will be
employed through the Huron
County Central Volunteer Bureau
as the result of a $12,240 grant.
That project will operate from
Goderich Township.
An Environmental Enhan-
cement Program organized by
the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority will employ four
workers under a $9,400LIP grant.
The Van Egmond Foundation
will employ four persons on a
restoration project at the Van
Egmond House through a $10,200
grant.
Road and Park Beautification
will be carried out by the
Township of Tuckersmith
following the granting of $9,400 by
LIP. That project will employ
three.
At the same time as those
announcements were made the
Government announced its in-
tention to make available another
$100,000,000 in LIP grants. Those
grants will however be available
only in areas where unem-
ployment is seven per cent or
more and Huron is running only
four and one half to five per cent
unemployment,
