Zurich Citizens News, 1976-11-10, Page 154 i H Awards Presented The auditorium at Central Huron High School in Clinton was filled to capacity for the annual Huron County 4-H Achievement awards presentations, Friday night. The chairman for the evening was Jean Dinsmore, president of the Huron 441 Club Leaders Association. In her opening remarks, the club leader president said, " It has been a privilege and an honour to be the first Lady President of our 4-H Club Leaders group. I am pleased to see women taking a more active part in the agriculture field," She continued, " We must remember our 4-H members of today are our citizens and leaders of tomorrow. By working together we can make Huron County a better place to live." The RE McKinley Citizenship trophy was won by Jim Nivins, R. R. 3, Auburn. The Huron MP's award goes to the top 4-H member in the County. Jim was a member of the Dungannon calf club and the Huron tractor club. The C.S. MacNaughton trophy to the 4-1-1 member accumulating the highest score in the county was won by Sharon Colclough, R.R. 1, Clinton. She was a member of the Seaf orth Silverspurs. Huron Warden Jack McCut- cheon presented the warden's novice award to Ron Beierling of Zurich, a member of the Huron tractor club. Ron gained the most points for a first year member. The Jack Riddell trophy to the champion 4-H sheep showman was presented to Marguerite Snell, RR 1, Clinton, by the Huron MPP. The Huron Hereford Association trophy was won by Margaret Pym of the Exeter calf club, Lyle Kinsman, RR 2, Kippen received a jacket from the Old Mill in Blyth as the highest scorer TOP CORN EXHIBITOR - Winner of the Russell Bolton trophy for the best 4-H corn exhibit was Sandy Broadfoot, RR 1, Brucefield. T -A photo Locals enter Fair The Royal Winter Fair starts this Friday and continues until November 20. If you plan to attend any of the fair's activi- ties there are some in particu- lar you might enjoy. These are one involving local people who have taken the time and effort necessary to enter in the various competitions at the fair. There are five entries in the field crops division from the Zurich area. They are Howard and Gregory Armstrong, Ber- nard and Anthony Denomme, Isidore Ducharme, Henry Rau and Mrs. Chas. Pergel. From the Hensall area there are two entries in the field crops division, Harold G. Elder and R.D. Etherington. Judith Smil- lie of Smiling Acres farm has entries in the breeding horses division. Dashwood will be represent- ed at the fair as well with Joseph Miller, Stephen Dietrich and Wayne Woods all entered in the field crops division. Keith Coates of Centralia is entered in the beef division, and Whitney Coates of Exeter is also entered in the beef division. The Royal offers a chance for the people in this and other parts of the province to compete against each other by exhibit- ing the results of their labor. Hopefully, this area will bring back some winners. in the sheep club. The Canadian Canners trophy went to Carol Dougall, RR 3, Exeter. She marked the highest score in the Exeter sweet corn club, The award was presented by Jack Urquhart, member of the Exeter branch of Canadian Canners. Alan Powe, RR 1, Centralia took home the Huron Soil and Crop Improvement award for outstanding achievement in 4-H field crop clubs. Russell Bolton of Seaforth presented his trophy to Sandy Broadfoot, RR 1, Brucefield for the championship corn exhibit. Jeff Allan, a member of the Tuckersmith 4-H field crop club won the Cook's 'Division of Gerbro trophy for the cham- pionship white bean exhibit. For attaining the highest score in the Exeter 4-H horse and pony club, Trudy Johns, RR 1, Woodham won a trophy and Murton Brock RR 1, Granton holder of the highest score in the dairy section of the judging competition won the Huron County Milk Committee award. youngsters received certificates for completing from six to 24 projects. Included in the six project completions were Jeff Allan, RR 1, Brucefield; Murton Brock, RR 1, Granton; Mary Easton, RR 3, Exeter; John Hamilton, RR 2, Staffa; Fred Hern, RR 1, Woodham; Lyle Kinsman, RR 2, Kippen; Beverley Preszcator, RR 1, Exeter; Dorothy Van Esbroeck, RR 1, Hensall; Lucy Van Esbroeck, RR 1, Hensall. Twelve project certificates went to DwightKinsman, RR 2, Kippen; Paul Pavkeje andRobert Pavkeje, RR 2, Centralia; Dave Rundle, RR 1, Centralia; Wayne Shapton, RR 1, Exeter; Lori Lynn Stewart, RR 1, Kirkton. Taking home 18 project cer- tificates were Alan Powe, RR 2, Centralia; Rob and Ron Stewart, RR 1, Hensall and Elaine and Murray Stewart, RR 1, Kirkton. The only 4-H member to complete 24 projects was Bill Armstrong, RR 4, Wingham. The award is based not only 4-11 work, but also home and com- munity activities are to be taken into consideration, including the pledge taken by each 4-H member. This year club leaders nominated 4-H members from their club who they felt would be worthy of such an award. Those 23 members nominated met together and from among themselves, selected six delegates to be interviewed by a Committee from the Club Leaders Association.
