Zurich Citizens News, 1976-11-03, Page 6Page 6 -Citizens News, November 3, 1976 Solutions to accommodation shortage discussed Five suggestions arising from a meeting between the Com- mittee of Management for Huronview and A.C. Thornhill and Dr. F. Vernon of the Ministry of Community and Social Services regarding possi- ble solutions to a shortage of ac- commodation were placed before the regular meeting of Huron County Council Friday. Council was urged to look for other facilities, such s the purchasing of service in other in- stitutions in the County, to solicit more aid from the Ministry of Health to provide more chronic beds in Huron, the possible con- struction of senior citizens apart- ment units in co-operation with the Ministry of Housing, the possible use of satellite homes and the possibility that in future the Ministry of Social Service may have funds available to build residential homesbut not to extend care facilities. At present, Huronview is full to capacity with a waiting list of between 30 and 40 persons. Council was also told that the Fire and Safety Advisor from the Ministry of Community and Social Services visited . Huron - view recently and made a number of recommendations which are now being carried out. The safety advisor recommended the pressurized water and Co2 extinguishers be recharged, combination nozzles be purchased to replace the straight stream nozzles on the fire hoses in the 1960 additions, that a thermal protector be in- stalled in the janitors rooms on the first floormen's section, that FUNNIEST COSTUMES—Left to right, Aaron Bullock, third prize winner, Ian Thiel, first prize winner and Heather Westlake, second prize winner, had the best comical costumes at the Zurich public school on Friday. Photo by McKinley Settlement received Huron County Council learned at their regular meeting Friday that the Ministry of Transpora- tion and Communication have agreed with a County request that Huron be allowed to take the $28,800 out of court settlement from a contractor as a "receivable" in 1976 rather than in the years the repair work in question was carried out. The $28,800 s.ettlement between the County and the con- tractor responsible for construc- tion of a retaining wall at Salt - ford was accepted and an- nounced earlier this year but was unclear whether all the payment would go to the County or if part would have to be paid to the Ministry. The Ministry approval is to Huron's advantage as it has the effect of increasing the 1976 sub- sidy allocation by that amount. County Engineer J. W. Britnell noted that this was the first time in history that a contractor had been held responsible under the terms of a contract.
