ON TALENT HOUR — Three girls from Zurich will be appearing on the Junior Talent Hour on CFPL TV,
Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Shown above during the taping session are Connie Neeb and Jody and Peggy
Hay, \
Work Comrnunity Centre
to be finished by NoNovember
The work being done on the
Community Centre will be fin-
ished by November 1, barr-
ing unforeseen difficulties ac-
cording to Isidore Laporte,
member of the recreation com-
mittee. Mr. Laporte assured
council at its regular meeting
last Wednesday that progress
so far has been good.
Town employees were auth-
orized to tear the floor and par-
tition out of the old municipal
building and look into the cost
of putting in a 10 foot door
and cementing the floor. The
building could then be used as
storeage and perhaps working
space for the works department
in winter, if the frame of the
building is found to be in good
condition.
A letter of congratulations
was received from the Architec-
tural Conservancy of Ontario
concerning the brick work,
paving and landscaping done on
the main street in town. The
group felt Zurich was "an
admirable example of how
imagination can be used to
make the downtown area pleas-
ant to visit and shop in."
Council authorized the clerk
to forward a cheque represent-
ing 50 percent of the Com-
munity Planning Study grant
from the Ministry of Housing
to the Huron County Planning
department as they are doing
the study for the village. The
other half will also be for-
warded, minus the villages
expenses, when it arrives from
the ministry.
Council decided against at-
tending the joint municipal
Christmas party being sponsor-
ed by Pineridge Chalet as they
have their own party. The date
for the village's Christmas
party will be decided by the
reeve and clerk, but it will
likely be held here in town.
The Association of Munici-
palities of Ontario requested
council endorse a resolution
concerning the Ontario Energy
Boards 30.3 percent increase in
bulk power rates which council
did.
A resolution was passed to
petition the Ministry of Trans-
portation and Communications
to advance the subsidy on road
expenditures of $29,427.00 to
September 30, 1976.
A by-law under section 362
(a) of the Municpal Act was
passed by council. This by-
law gives them the authority to
send registered notices to any
ratepayers who have yet to
hook into the sewer system.
After a nine month waiting
period from the time of the
sending of the notices, council
would have the authority to
make the hook-ups and charge
the property owner. These
notices will be sent to anyone
in the village who is suspected
of not having hooked into the
system.
Doug Erb of Zurich request-
ed council install a street light
on Edward Street West. After
discussing the matter council
agreed to install the street
light as the pole, light and
wire are all available. The cost
will just be for labor.
Another meeting of those
involved with the John Street
drain will be held on Thurs-
day, October 21.
Zurich Road Superintendent,
Carl Thiel, has a new addition
to his job. While making his
daily rounds of the village he
has been asked to keep an eye
out for unsightly horse manure
which has been appearing on
village ` streets including the
boulevard. The clerk has
received several complaints
from people in town concerning
this problem and also the prob-
lem of horses getting loose
and running the streets un-
attended. Reeve Fred Haberer
hopes people will "keep horses
off the boulevards or at least
have enough common sense to
clean it up if they make a mess
along the way."
THE REGIERS AND PEACHES—Junior Talent Hour Co -host Peaches saw her chance to get in
a little dancing with the Regier sisters on a recent Junior Talent Hour taping at CFPL-TV. Although
the girls don't seem to mind having Peches in their act, the co -host fell asleep—leaving the talented
young Zurich dancers to perform alone.
