Varna
BY MRS. BILL CHESSELL
Mrs. Belle Reid and her sis-
ter, Mrs. Beulah Smith, were in
London from Sunday to Thurs-
day, visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Rowse.
Mrs. John Ostrom has been
in Winnipeg for the past
couple of weeks, visiting her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Erik Neilson and their
family
Congratulations to Bill and
Helen Taylor, who were marr-
ied 25 years ago yesterday.
Last Saturday evening their
family treated thern to dinner at
the Little Inn in Bayfield. Pre-
sent also were Mr, and Mrs,
Morris Taylor of Varna, Bill's
mother, Mrs. Ruth Taylor of
Clinton and Helen's parents,
Mr. and Mrs, Russell Erratt of
Hensall. The following day, Mr.
Erratt had the misfortune to
fall and break his hip. We wish
him a good recovery.
TAKING IT EASY—Auctions can get pretty boring if you are too
short to see what's happening and you don't really want to buy
anything anyway, but 8 year old Michelle Allison of Dashwood
found a solution. Michelle is sitting on a ladder leaning against
a wardrobe during the auction sale on Goshen Street north in
Zurich last Saturday. Photo by McKinley

Thanksgiving meeting
The Varna United Church
Women held their regular meet-
ing last Thursday evening.
Eleanor McAsh, Ruth Johnston
and Elaine Stephenson pre-
sented a Thanksgiving pro-
gram, using the stories of the
pilgrims, Job, Paul and the
lepers to point out that people
who suffer extreme adversity
can still find many things for
which to thank God.
Margaret Hayter introduced
Marie McGavin of Walton, who
told with wit and great enthus-
iasm of her experiences at Alma
College last August. She ad-
vised the women to take the
opportunity to attend if they
can, and not to be afraid that
four days of that environment
will be too much. There is time
set aside for relaxation and fun,
and she considered it a wonder-
ful experience.
Marjorie Stirling presided for
the business. Invitations were

Another outhouse
An editorial in the Seaforth
Expositor ventures to say that
the Goshen outhouse is prob-
ably the last church outhouse in
this area. Well, it has company.
The outhouse is still standing
behind the Varna church, al -
thought it hasn't been used for
the past three years.

The minute you see this three bedroom cottage you will say
there is a place that is adaptable. The owner started to
renovate, but has purchased a winter home in Bayfield and
says sell (as is). For any person who can see real potential,
this is it. Built on an 84 x 118 lot on a paved street with a lake
view. It is very inexpensive, in the early 20's. Details from
Orton Logan, 565-2746 or 1-432-7751.
