lottery starts
Starting September 6th Wintar-
io has a big sister—The Provinci-
al. The first draw will be Hallow-
een, October 31st—with a new
game every two months after
that. The second draw will be
New Year's Eve.
The Provincial is designed to
give the people of Ontario a
chance to play for five $1 million
prizes and five $1/4 million
prizes. If five million tickets are
issued there will be 50,000 prizes
available with a total value of
$10,850,000. All tax free. Your
odds of winning a prize are 1 in
100 and the cost of each ticket is
$5.00.
The proceeds will stay right
here in Ontario to support medi-
cal research and health related
environmental programs.
"It's a better chance for every-
one," Pollock said. "The people
of Ontario will have a chance to
win large cash prizes and the
proceeds will go to worthwhile

cause's throughout the Province."
The Provincial does not replace
Wintario. People will still be
able to play Wintario at $1.00
a ticket for five $100,000 prizes,_
every two weeks. "The new game
simply allows people to play
for bigger stakes, every two
months, knowing that the pro-
fits will benefit Ontario,". Pollock
said.
Where do you buy Provincial
tickets? Simple. At any one of
the 18,000 retail outlets through-
out the Province which currently
sell Wintario tickets.
It's expected to take an hour
long TV show to announce the
winning numbers. The program
will be televised live on the Global
television network, and selected
CBC and CTV stations in the
north, and will feature the famous
Ryo-Catteau machines to guaran-
tee the random selection of the
winning numbers.
74,000 Students apply
for assistance
More than 74,000 applica-
tions were received by the
Ontario Student Assistance
Program (OSAP) by August
27. Almost 50,000 have been
processed and the results sent
out to the various colleges and
universities. Another 15,000
applications will be processed
and returned to the institutions
in the next week.
Dr. Parrott said the high
volume of processed applica-
tions now being. returned to
the institutions may cause a
backlog in some student awards
offices. "I realize the delays
can be very inconvenient, but
I hope students will understand
that student awards officers are
under a lot of pressure during
registration and that some
delay is unavoidable, Dr.
Parrott said.
The ' Ministry's initial prob-
lems in the processing of applic-
ations have now been over-
come. Unless their applications
contain errors, students who

OSAP makes loans and
grants available to full-time
post -secondary students who
are unable to meet the full cost
of their education.
Normally the first $1,000 of
assistance is provided in the
form of a loan guaranteed by
the federal government. Stu-
dents needing additional assist-
ance receive it from the pro-
vince as non -repayable grant.
Dr. Parrott said that students
who have not found jo.bs this
summer may be eligible for
additional loan assistance. They
should appeal to the student
awards officer at the institu-
tion where they register and
should provide documentation
supporting their appeal.
More than 106,000 applica-
tions were received by OSAP in
1975-76 and assistance was
provided to more than two out
of every five students in Ontar-
io. The province's budget for
OSAP grants this year is
$61 million, up from $49 million
in 1975-76.
