Zurich Citizens News, 1976-08-11, Page 17tigers win again The Dashwood Tigers appear to be headed for the final round of the Huron -Perth intermediate baseball league championship. The Tigers scored two wins this. week over the Zurich Mets. In Dashwood Friday night, the Tigers were on the top side of an 11-4 score and Sunday afternoon in Zurich the score was 4-1 for Dashwood. Wednesday, the Clinton Colts scored a lopsided victory over the Zurich club. This week Clinton and Dash- wood meet in home and home contests. The two clubs played in Clinton last night, Wednesday and the rematch at the Dashwood field will be Friday night at 8 p.m. Sunday's game in Zurich with the Tigers gaining a 4-1 decision was one of the best played of the season, Each team carne up with excellent fielding plays. The only error of the game came in the ninth inning. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Dave Parsons doubled, John Hayter walked and both were able to come around to score on a double from the bat of Bob Hoffman and a.sacrifice fly delivered by Brad Gregus. Zurich's only score was produced in the third inning when Kevin McKinnon walked and was propelled the rest of the way by singles from Jeff O'Brien and Gerald Weido, Dave Parsons walked, a stole second and scored on a single by Glenn Thurman to account for Dashwood's third run in the seventh inning. In the Dashwood ninth, John Hayter led off with a single, moved to second on the only error of the game and. to home plate on a single by Brad Gregus. The other Dashwood hits in the game were a single by Brad Gregus and a double from Dave Parsons. Percy Bedard, Derek O'Brien, Kevin McKinnon and Jeff O'Brien picked up the other Zurich base hits. Perry Stover went the full distance on the Dashwood mound to pick up the victory, He allowed six hits while walking three and recording five strikeouts. Randy McKinnon was also effective on the Zurich hill. He gave up seven base hits while walking five and fanning the same number. In Dashwood Friday night, the Mets wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with three runs in their first turn at the plate. Rick Schilbe. opened with a double, Kevin McKinnon walked, Pat Bedard followed with a single and Gerard Charrette hit a sacrifice fly to score the first two runs. Walks to Steve Bedour and Gerald Weido and a Dashwood error allowed the third marker. The Tigers were able to get one run back in their half of the first ; when Dave Parsons walked, stole • second and came across on Bob Hoffman's single. In the Dashwood second, Rob Dickey cracked a double and was able to score when Bob Hoffman collected his second straight single. The final Zurich run came in the third when Pat Bedard was safe on an error, stole second and was sent home on a single from the bat of Jeff O'Brien. The Tigers leaped in front to stay in the third with three runs on only one hit, Jim Guenther, Brad Gregus and Rob Dickey drew walks and they were able to score.as the result of a double by Gary Hartman. Three extra base hits broke the game wide open for Dashwood in the fourth, Bob Hoffman started the action with a double and Jim Guenther walloped the ball over the right centre field fence to clear the bases, Dan Dalton followed with a double and scored on Rob Dickey's single. In the sixth, Jim Guenther collected his second home run in as many times at the plate With a drive over the fence in about the same spot. The final two Tiger tallies came in the seventh on walks to John Hayter and Bob Hoffman, a double steal and a single by Jim Guenther. Lefty Jim Guenther was the winning pitcher for Dashwood going the full nine inning distance. He allowed -only four hits while recording eight strikeouts. Use hot water wisely Save energy. .
