The weatherman is giving us
about every variety of weather
that is reasonable for this time of
year and the abundance of rain
is keeping our lawns and flower
gardens looking lovely and fresh,
We welcome Mr. Scott Chand-
ler, formerly of London as a new
Resident.
On Thursday afternoon several
of our Residents enjoyed a bus
tour of the countryside. It's a
real treat for them to get out to
see how the crops are growing
and ' admire the countryside in
general.
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy O'Brien
of Zurich took up residency in
Maplewoods Apartments this
week which means that the com-
plex is now more than half
occupied.
On Sunday, July 18th, at 2:00

p.m. the public are invited to
attend the Official Opening
Ceremonies of the Maplewoods
Apartments for Seniors. Many
people have been inquiring
concerning the opportunity to
see the new building and we look
forward to their presence on
Sunday afternoon.
On Friday evening bingo was
enjoyed at the usual time followed
by refreshments.
Congratulations are in order
for Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gingerich
wo will be celebrating their
fiftieth wedding anniversary qui-
etly on Thursday, July 15th, here.

On Sunday evening, the chapel
service was conducted by Rev.
Donald Beck of Hensall United
Church. Mrs. Lenore Turkheim
presided at the organ during the
worship service.

Huron Hockey School opens
The 1976 season for the Huron
Hockey School operating out of
the Randall arena at Huron Park
should be very successful again
this year.
Registrar Carol Somerville
reports that the first session
begins this Sunday, July 18 and
will continue until September 3.
Mrs. Somerville adds that the'
only openings and there are only
a very few are in the first three
weeks. Any area youngsters
wishing to register for any of the
first three sessions should con-
tact Mrs. Somerville at 228-6863.
The first week will be a day
program only.
For several years professional
hockey clubs have been sending
some of their players for a little
extra instruction and this year
will be no exception. They will be
attending the last two sessions
beginning August 22 and 29,
Heading the list of pros will be
Dave "Inger" Williams of the
Toronto Maple' Leafs. Also
making an appearance will be
five members of the Montreal
Canadiens and three each from
the New York Islanders and
Philadelphia Flyers.
Mrs. Somerville told the T -A
over the weekend that she did not
know which players would be
coming from the Flyers but said
Staff presents Family Night
The variety program for Family
Night was provided by members
of the staff and was rated by the
residents as one of the best. This
was the first all staff program and
as it was such "k tremendous
success, we hope to have a repeat
performance in the near future.
Mrs. Jane Ladd arranged and
introduced the program which
included the following numbers:
Monologues by Dorothy McGreg-
or and Dorothy Valkenburg;
piano solos by Donna, Joyce and
Brenda Broadfoot; instrumentals
Adana Wilson, Karen McGregor
and Jo Ann Verhocf; readings
Dorothy Scott and Homer An-
drews; a vocal trio "The Blue-
bells" Elizabeth Gibson, Barbara
and Judy Carter. • Mrs. Bessie
Elliott expressed the appreciation
of the residents for the hour of
fine entertainment.
Twenty members of the "Over
90 Club" enjoyed a picnic at
Pinelake Camp on Wednesday
afternoon. Miss Mary Turner,
who will be celebrating her
100th birthday in December,
had the honour of being the
eldest member present.' .The
kitchen staff had prepared box
Irma LaDouce at
Country Playhouse
Audiences were delighted last
week with the Huron Country
Playhouse presentation of Neil
Simon's The Star-Spangled girl.
This production was not only
critically successful, but also
drew large audiences. Area
theatre -goers can attend a new
Playhouse production this week
— Alexandre Breffort and
Marguerite Monnot's exciting
Irma La Douce.
Irma La Douce is the
sophisticated musical which
originated in Paris, was
transported to London for a long
run and set box offices afire in the
U.S. Irma is a beguiling tart who
becomes involved with Nestor, a
law student. But Nestor's
jealousy leads them down the
long road of subterfuge and
deceit.
He disguises himself as a
wealthy old man and takes the
role of Irma's patron, in order to
ward off all others. This plan
backfires in unexpected ways,
•and a murder,a trial and a jail
sentence ensue before the young
loversjfind ultimate happiness in
family life.
The title role is portrayed by
Catherine Leckie, an experienced
recording artist and night club
entertainer. Miss Leckie also has
extensive dramatic experience.
'Nestor -le -(ripe' is played- by
David Dunbar who madehis first
Playhouse appearance in You're
a Good Man Charlie Brown.
John Davies appears as `Bob'
the bartender, who narrates the
show. Mr. Davies, who appears
regularly on the Wayne'& Shuster
Comedy Specials, is best known
to Playhouse audiences for his
appearance as `Luckie' in last
season's hit Dames at Sea.
Other cast members include
Peter Caldwell, Alden Jones,
Peter Purvis. and James Saar, as
well as Bob Landar, who doubled
as choreographer. Patricia
Carroll Brown directed Irma La
Douce, and musical direction is
by Barbara Young. Members of
the London Symphony form the
orchestra.
Irma La Douce'will follow the
usual Playhouse schedule of
Wednesday to Saturday
evenings at 8:30 (July 14-17) with
a preview on Wednesday af-
ternoon at 2:00, and a discount
matinee Saturday at 4 p.m. This
week will mark the official
celebration of the Playhouse fifth
anniversary season.

Another first took place at the
Horne on Thursday evening when
the residents of Normal Care
were entertained to a Bar -B -Que
on the East lawn. Mr. Scotty
Easton moved a vote of thanks to
Mr. Archibald and his staff on
behalf of the residents. The
weather was perfect for the
event and it is hoped to have one
for each of the areas during the
month of July.

The instructional staff of the
Huron Hockey School will again
be headed by the three owners,
Brian Gilmour, Ron Mason and
Bill Mahoneyy.
Ron Mason is well known in this
area having played junior hockey
in Seaforth. He is now the hockey
coach at Bowling Green
University. Previously he en-
joyed a successful coaching
career at Superior State in
northern. Michigan.
Bill Mahoney is a coach and
athletic director at McMaster
University in Hamilton and Brian
Gilmour coaches at Cornwall.
Also on the coaching staff this
summer will be Rick Comley who
succeeded Mason in Michigan
and Reg Higgs, the husband of
well known Canadian women
golfing star Sue Hilton Higgs.
