Ontario junior championshi,
The 1976 Imperial junior
cricket trophy was won last
weekend by the newly formed
Huron County cricket club. After
beating the tournament hosts
Windsor in first round play,
Huron County easily disposed of
Waterloo by 6 wickets to reach
the final against favourites
Hamilton, who had downed
Toronto East and Welland
County.
Batting first, Hamilton soon
had 50 runs on the board with the
loss of only two wickets, but then
collapsed, dropping their
remaining eight wickets for an
addition of only 23 runs. Huron
County scored the 74 runs needed
for victory for the loss of six
wickets.
14 -year old Peter Weekes of
Exeter, 15 -year old Euan Ren-
jamin of Goderich, and 15 -year
old Victor Khanj of Stoney
Cireek, were named the most
valuable players of the Tour.

Resort appeal
Grand Bend council's appealto
have their apportionment in the
Lambton county education levy
lowered was rejected by an ar-
bitration board of 14 municipal
treasurers and the county
treasurer at a meeting June 24.
Grand Bend had appealed their
apportionment after the
education levy apportionment
rose 27 percent without any new
assessment in Grand Bend.
Council was appealing what
they thought was a
rejected
miscalculation in the ap-
portionment, but the percentage
differences in the apportionment
and equalized assessment proved
the education board was correct.
Since Grand Bend did not win
the appeal, the eduation levy will
remain in excess of $160,000 said
Reeve Bob Sharen.
He added that the increase in
the levy to about 18.5 mills, could
be the total increase in Grand
Bend's budget when it is set,
possibly at a meeting June 30.
Abu Renjamin of Goderich, and
coach Dave Silcock of Exeter,
were given special recognition
for organizing a successful new
teamsthat included three boys -
ho had never actually seen a
game of cricket until two months
ago!
Huron now boasts a seasons
record of seven wins and no
losses, and will go forward to
represent Ontario at the All
Canada Junior Cricket Games to
be held later j this summer in
Toronto.
