Zurich Citizens News, 1976-05-12, Page 4Page 4 -Citizens News, May 14/ Hensall By Hilda M, Payne Baptism held at Hensafl Unted The Sacrement of Baptism was administered at the United Church Service at Hensall on Sunday when Mr, and Mrs. Al Corbett, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Haugh and Mr. and Mrs. Ron McBride presented their children for baptism. Baptised were Catherine Donna Corbett, Ther- esa Lynn Haugh and Michael Ronald McBride. Rev. Don Beck conducted the service ob- serving Mother's Day as "The Festival of the Christian Horne" and took for the topic of his sermon "Taking things for granted". This is not one of the seven cardinal sins but is at the bottom of all the cardinal sins and can have both a positive and a negative effect. Mrs. John Turkheim was at the organ and the Junior choir sang, "Mother" and "My Mother's Love" while Gail Travers sang a solo, "I Love to Hear the Story". The church was full, many visitors being present. Flowers were from the funeral of the late Mr. Harry Snell. Next Sunday, Exeter United Church Junior Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Marianne Mc- Caffery, will present "Sang", the store of the Good Samaritan in the modern musical form, at Hensall United Church at 11 a,m. UNIT 4U.C.W. Mother's Day was the topic of the devotional given by Mrs. Pearl Shaddick at Unit 4 of Hensall U.C.W. on Thursday afternoon. She spoke on 'the life of her own mother and the influence that life had on her own. Mrs. Hazel Luther read a poem on "Mothers" and Mrs. Nan Britton and Mrs. • Eric Luther sang a duet, "Under His Wings" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Dorothy Mickle. The topic "'Tanzania" was given by Mrs. E. Chipchase, v. ho told us that the Christian Church in Tanzania sees itself as a co-worker with the govern- ment. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Russel Erratt. At the busi- ness session plans for the Beef Bar-B-Quc, to be held May 26 were completed. The meeting closed with the singing of the hymn, "Come let us sing of a Wonderful Love" followed by prayer. Mrs. Sim Roobal is a patient in South Huron Hospital for the benefit of her health. Mr. and Mrs. James McAllister have returned from an enjoyable two weeks trip to Houston and Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Cecil Pepper attended the Officers Conference for the Federated Women's Institute of Ontario at Waterloo University for three days last week. Mother's Day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Skea were Mr. and Mrs. John Skea Junior and Colin and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Mason and Andrew. Mrs. Ida Sweet of Exeter spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Blackwell. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Passmore, Michael, Mark and Debra of London visited with the former's mother Mrs. Pearl Passmore for Mother's Day. Charles Mickle, Hamilton, spent th.c weekend with his mother, Mrs. Laird Mickle. Obituary Norman H. Jones Norman H. Jones Norman H. Jones passed away at Huronview on Saturday May 8th in his 86th year. He was a long time resident of Hensall, a member of Hensall United Church and a member of the 100F and Rebekah Lodges, Husband of the late Florence Hugill Jones, surviving are sons Wilmer, Hensall; Wesley, Port Perry; daughters, Mrs. Fred (Kathleen) Ireland, Toronto; Mrs. Ivan (Mildred) Ferguson, Ottawa; brother of Arthur Jones, Exeter; Herbert and Mrs. Ida Munn, Hensall; eight grandchild- ren and twelve great grandchild- ren survive. A combined Odd - fellow and Rebekah service was held at the Bonthron Funeral Horne on Monday evening May 10 at 9:00 p.m. Rev. Don Beck conducted the funeral service from the Bonthron Chapel on Tuesday, .May 11 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Baird's Cemetery. The pallbearers were members of the 100F lodge namely: Earl and Percy Campbell. Stanley love, Alex MacBeath, Ernie Chipchase and Charles Hay. Mrs. Ron Littleton is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. Don Kyle, Amherst, N.S. visited Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Kyle. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Kirk, Mans- field, visited in the village on Saturday, The Executive of Kippen East W.1. met at the home of the president Mr. Al Hoggarth on May 5. Plans were made ews for the programs for the year 1976-77. The May meeting of Kippen East W.I. will be held May 19 in the Legion Hall, Hensall. Hostesses are Mrs. Grant Mac- Lean, Mrs. Robert Bell. The roll call is my favourite game as a child. Mrs. Campbell Eyre will have the motto, the Current Events will be given by Mrs. Robert Kinsman, the 4-H Girls will entertain and Mrs. Vern Alderdice will conduct a con- test. Mrs. H. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beaver and fancily of Paris spent the week end with Mrs. Edith Bell and Sylvia, THREE C'S MEET The Three C's Couples Club were pleasantly entertained at the April meeting by Peggy and Brian Campbell; Bev and Harry Moir; Helen and Bill Tinney. Progressive Euchre was played with the following prize winners: men's high, Bob Bell; men's consolation, Dave Ferguson; ladies' high, Dorothy Taylor; ladies' consolation, Sharon Love. A delicious lunch was served by the three couples in charge. The next gathering on May 17 at 8 p.m. will be a "Mystery Tour" commencing at the home of Jim and Mary Dougall. Bring your flash lights and compass. All couples welcome. JUNIOR CHOIR AT CARMEL CHURCH Rev. W.D. Jarvis conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian church on Sunday. The sermon was in keeping with Baptism. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vanstone presented their son Joseph Aldon for baptism. The Junior Choir under the direction of Miss Linda Beli at the organ sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Let The Sunshine In". The flowers in the church were in memory of the late Harry Snell.
