A large representation of members of the 100F lodge and Amber Rebekah Lodge attended Divine worship at Varna church on Sunday morning. A number of Hensall area residents were guests at the "Testimonial" dinner held in the Legion hall, Exeter on Satur- day evening in honor of Dr. M.C. Fletcher who has practised medicine for fifty years. Rev. W.D. Jarvis conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian on Sunday. The sermon subject was "Second Class Citizens". The anniversary services will be held on Sunday, May 16 at 11:00. Guest minister will be Rev. Ken Innes of Brussels. BRIDE -ELECT HONORED Mrs. Robert Baker was hostess at her home for a miscellaneous bridal shower in honor of Miss Janifer Shannon of Bryanston bride -elect of this week. A social time was enjoyed and the guest of honor was presented with many beautiful gifts. Guests attended from London, Ridgetown, Hen- sall, Centralia, Zurich, Clinton and Stratford. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holland, Gwen and Michael of Clinton were recent dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. James Sangster and Brad. Mr. & Mrs. Garnet Mousseau of Ridgetown were recent visitors with relatives and friends here. The May meeting of the Hensall Women's Institute will be held at the Legion Hall on Wednesday, May 12 at 8 p.m. All women of the community are invited, especially grand- mothers. Mr. David Ring will speak on the Van Egmond home in Egmondville. The youth group of Hensall United Church met on Sunday evening and decided to have meetings until June 20 when they will break for the summer. The next meeting will be on May 16 when a sacred Rock Opera tape will be played with discussion to follow. Dori Beck when the topic of the sermon was "Peace be with you". If we have peace within, our witness should reach out to those around us and they in turn, should receive peace. Mrs. John Turkheim assisted at the organ and the choir sang the anthem, "Look ye saints", with Mr. Doug Mock taking the solo. Unit 4 will meet on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Next Sunday will be Christian Family Sunday when the Sacrament of Infant Baptism will be administered. Mr. and Mrs. Art Coombs of Clinton, Mrs. Hilda McAdmas of Zurich, Mrs. BeatriceTaylor of Varna, Mrs. Vera Johnston of Brucefield and Mrs. Marjorie Baird, Obie and Jay of Oshawa visited Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, Mrs. Elizabeth Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey during the past week. Town visitors were Mrs. Bona Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Miller and Mrs. Irene Fin- layson. Mrs. Alma Hess of Toronto visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, Mrs. Elizabeth Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey. over the weekend: Three Links entertained The talented Miller family of five sisters, from Dashwood, and Angie Duttman, of Hensall, provided some toe -tapping music at the Three Links Senior Citizen's meeting last Thursday, April 29. The concert lasted about one and a half hours and was arranged by the Athletic Association and the girls were enthusiastically received by the members. Following the concert, euchre was played. During the business session, Mrs. Campbell suggested that the Seniors hold a Bake Sale at the Kinette Rummage Sale at the arena on May 13. This was agreed upon. The Athletic Association is handling registration for boy's and girl's ball and soccer on Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at the arena and will be holding another dance to raise funds at the Hensall Auditorium on May 29. Come out and support Minor Sports. Mrs. Mattie Ellis celebrates (By Bertha MacGregor) Mr. Stewart Bell, who was a patient in South Huron Hospital Exeter, returned to his home this week. Mr. Ted Norminton of Ottawa and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tra- quair of Woodstock spent the week end here. Mrs. J.L. McCloy and daughter Carrie of Don Mills visited over the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stretton and family. Mrs. Laurie McCloy and daughter Carrie and Mrs. Alma Hess of Don Mills visited on Saturday with Mrs. Laird Mickle. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stretton visited on Sunday with the latter's•brother Douglas Sangster who is a patient in Westminster Hospital, London and later visited with his wife Mrs. Sangster and family. Mrs. Cornelius Faber pleasant- ly entertained at a dinner party at her home on Sunday in honour of her aunt Miss Mattie Ellis who celebrated her 94th birthday on Monday. The table was centered with a birthday cake and silver candelabra and spring flowers. Guest included Mr. and Mrs. Art Traquair of Woodstock, Mr. Ted Norminton, Ottawa, Mr. and Mrs. Pat McCann and Jeffrey, Mt. Carmel, Miss Sheila Mc- Brayne, Pat and Stephen Faber. Mrs. John MacFarlane of God- erich visited on Saturday with her brother-in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stretton and Mrs. J.L. McCloy of Don Mills. Mrs. Olive Horton who has been recuperating in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, following sur- gery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, returned to her home this week. Miss Mattie Ellis Observes Her 94th Birthday Miss Mattie Ellis, retired school teacher, observed her 94th birthday at her home in Hensall on Monday, May 3. She received many cards, flowers and best wishes. Born in Goderich Miss Ellis came to Hensall with her parents in 1886. Following her school- ing, she attended Normal School in London and taught school in •Chatsworth, S.S. #1 Tuckersmith (known as the "White" school) then in Harrow, Essex County and finally in Hensall Public School for many years before she retired. Miss Ellis was very active in the Hensall United Church organ- izations, the W.M.S. and she organized the Woheio Sunday School Class which she taught for many years. She was a member of the Amber Lodge. Miss Ellis also wrote a book on "The History of Hensall". She enjoys good health and keeps her own home. Sell Tickets for Bunny Bundle Four local girls Barbara Stret- ton, Linda and Donna Zwaan and Sandra McCurdy donated 826 to the Bunny Bundle by selling tickets on an angel cake. The winner of the cake was Bill Baker, Hensall. ENTERTAIN SENIORS --Senior citizens of Hensall and area were entertained Thursday night by the Hensel! Minor Hockey Association. Meets The W.M.S. of Carmel Church met on Monday evening with Mrs. Harvey Hyde presiding and opened the meeting with a poem for "Mother's Day". The Devotional program "Korean Christian Church in Japan" was in charge of Mrs. Earl Campbell assisted in an inter- view dialogue by Mrs. Malcom Dougall and Mrs. Percy Campbell and Mrs, Ed Munn led in prayer. Mrs, Rochus Faber reported on the Synodical held at Chippewa. An invitation was accepted to visit Seaforth on May 5. The Huron Presbyterial Spring Rally will be held at Hensall Church on May 20 at 1:30 p.m. Mrs, Murray Garvin, Mission- ary from. Taiwain will be the speaker.
