Zurich Citizens News, 1976-04-21, Page 10Page 10 - Citizens News, April 21/76 Grand ALHAMBRA HALL MEETING Around 50 attended the Easter Ecumenical, held at the Alhambra hall, Monday evening, hosted by the Catholic ladies. C'WE. president Mrs. Tom Vlemmix presided and opened with a poem "Twelve thoughts to live by," followed by an "Eastertime" poem by Mrs. Adrienne Smeekens. Two solos "I don't know how to love him," and "Spirit of God" were sung by Mrs. Philip Walker. Guest speaker was a retired United church minister, Rev. H. Yarr of Thedfordand his message was on "Shadow of the Cross." "At Easter" was read by Mrs. Ann Grootjen, followed by a reading, "Tommy's Prayer" by Mrs. Janet Desjardine. With Mrs. John Campbell accompanying on the organ Mrs. Desjardine sang, "Let me spread Sunshine in Somebody's Life. The Snow White Foal was read by Mrs. Jack Eagleson. President of the United church women. . A poem "Leaven" was given by Mrs. Gera Peters. Organist for the evening was Linda Jamrozinski. A delicious smorgasbord lunch closed the evening. Twenty attended the Orpha Club meeting at president, Mrs. Irene Kennedy's home. She opened with a poem "The marvel that is you." Travelling prize was donated by Ada Wilson and won by Susie Devine. Plans were discussed for the May 4th pot luck supper and committees set up. The winter work of the club is to be turned in at the next meeting for the Children's Easter shower at Sarnia and held at Susy Devine's home. WI MEETING Sixteen members attended the annual Woolen's Institute meeting Thursday afternoon in the town hall. President, Mrs. Nola Taylor opened with a Spring poem. A bus trip was planned for May 25 to Niagara Falls and Marineland. Anyone interested in going . can phone Mrs. Nola Taylor, Mrs. Susie Devine or Mrs. Raymond Kading. Roll call was answered by payment of membership fees. Mrs. Ed Gill reported on the Board meeting that she and Mrs. N. Taylor attended earlier this month. Mrs. Leroy Bariteau reported attending the South Huron hospital meeting and told the members about the testimonial dinner being planned for Dr. M. C. Fletcher. Installation of officers was conducted by Mrs. Leroy Bari- teau. Grand Bend couple mark anniversary The family of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baker would like to announce the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple were married on April 25, 1906, at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gill, by the Rev. Samuel Carriere. Their attendants were the bride's sister, Victoria Gill, and the groom's brother, Bill Baker. The Baker's farmed for 52 years then later retired and moved to Grand Bend. Their family consisted of four children (Cora) deceased 1932, Joe deceased 1940, Mrs. Lloyd (Eva) Fahner, and Mrs. Lillian Brown, also nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mr. Baker was born October 27, 1884 and Mrs. Baker Nove- mber 6, 1885. The latter has now resided at the Bluewater Rest home for the past three years and Mr. Baker at his home in Green Acres, Grand Bend. FA HAS PONE IT AGAIN!
