Citizens News, April 7/76 - Page 11
Grand Bend village council is
maintaining its policy that proj-
ects which will be of benefit
mainly to the municipality's
business section must be funded
. from that source, namely the
Grand Bend and Area Chamber of
C'ommeree.
At a meeting of council Monday
night, council were sympathetic.
In fact council granted the Cham-
ber free use of the beach parking
lot for the second annual Buffalo -
burger Fest in June and also
authorized the village works
department to assist with garbage
removal.
At the same time, council
warned Chamber representatives
Bert Albertson and Al Best
that assistance from council must
be curtailed in the future, simply
because the municipality doesn't
have the dollars to provide.
Later in the meeting, discuss-
ing a letter from the Chamber
indicating that it didn't want
to share in the cost of keeping
public washrooms open later in
the suninter evenings, council
indicated that if the Chamber
wanted things done in the future,
it would have to be prepared
to do it on its own.
"The Chamber is doing a sup-
er job but the village just can't
afford to support the Chamber
that much," councillor Bob Simp-
son told the Chamber reps.
"It all seems to be going one way
and the tax situation is such that
the Chamber's grant may be
cut.'
Mr. Albertson informed counc-
il that the Chamber planned the members are not

After considerable discussion,
the Huron Board of Education
agreed Monday to pay - the
expenses of Huron secondary
school teams, groups, clubs,
bands. etc. who win Huron -
Perth honours and advance to
WOSSA and provincial compet-
itions.
The matter was first discussed
- when superintendent Jim Coulter
asked that principals be per-
mitted to submit accounts for
expenses so incurred as overages
to the individual school's budget.
Budget chairman John Elliott
was the first to object saying he
felt tine budget committee should
be involved for extra spending.

Hc was supported by South
Huron Principal J.L. Wooden who
was in attendance. Wooden
commented, "Sometimes there
is no time lag at all. Entries must
be made to WOSSA the same day
you win Huron -Perth."
Last year's board chairman
Wilfred Shortrced supported
paying any expenses incurred.
He added, "Take the Goderich
drama club for instance. They
put in a lot of work. It's only fair
that we support them to the top.
It' we curtail everything our
youth are interested in then we
are in trouble."
Superintendent Jinl Coulter
said expenses in most cases
are kept to a minimum. Hc said
it cost only $100 'to send the
