Hawks manager pa" ia Despite all kinds of diversities Fred Mommersteeg, manager of the Exeter Hawks junior hockey club is very satisfied with his team's showing this year. Currently trailing the Belmont Ronwood Bombers three games to two in the first round of OHA playoffs, the Hawks surprised a lot of people by winning the first two games of the series. Mommersteeg told the News Monday morning, "1 am really proud of the team. We have come through a lot of troubles this year. First a number of our players went south for holidays, then we had a change in coaches, closing of the arena and now an unending streak of injuries." Mommersteeg continued, "On the whole, I am very pleased with the way the season has gone. 'Certainly not much else can go wrong. We are a young team and they have done everything we have asked of them." On the subject of injuries, the Exeter manager said, "all injuries have come due to heavy checks from the Belmont op- position. I think the referees should have a better eye for intent to injure. Sure, they may get a two minute roughing penalty but we lose a boy for the rest of the season." Currently out of action are Fred and Rick Mommersteeg, Steve Jennison and Phil Knight, "I'm really proud of our guys. If Belmont forgot about the rough stuff we could beat them as we can skate with any team in the league. I'm happy that our team doesn't retaliate. I'm proud of them," continued Mommer- steeg, ed at 12.20. Ron Rader rounded out the scoring at 19.08 as he converted a pass from Kevin McKinnon. Wayne Clemens picked up truly deserved first star honours, followed by teammates Jim Laird and Ron Corriveau of the Flyers. The Flyers now have their backs to the wall and must win Thursday night in 'Medford in order to prolong the series. If the Flyers manage to win Thursday evening the next game will be Sunday afternoon in the Zurich arena at 2 p.m. • • S t1 OTEL ENSALL 10° - grid ours'y7 e 5 psi* $ . 30 , 9 EFS C$ 1 1\k10 - VCS coosekoseee se • soak 1>>1Ir' Sat. , Feb. 21 Special Guest Organist n Forest YOUR HOSTS "PETE" and "CAROLE" DE(TZ HIGHWAY 21 — GRAND BEND r i r f y y .
