Zurich Citizens News, 1977-12-15, Page 34Postponed Lions bingo held The Bayfield Lions- Club Feather Bingo which had to be postponed from Friday to Monday evening because of adverse weather conditions was a great success with a capacity crowd filling the Community Center. Among the lucky turkey winners were Marion Castle, Ann Bayfield. by Milvena Erickson Talbot, Sandra Snell, Perce Renner, Jeannette Huffmann, Milvena . Erickson, Pearl - Hutchings, Marion Coleman, •Bev. Pounder, Audrey Graham, Bertha Taylor, Denise Orr, Margaret Gale, Dawna Westlake, Karen Webster, Fern Baker, Ruth Ann Knights, Fred Telford, Joyce Dowson, Edna Patterson. Share -the -wealth games were won by Alice Brandon ($35.00), Rodger Amy ($35.00), Evelene Earl ($35.00), Brown Lindsay ($33.00), Mary Boyce ($27.00). Three dollars was awarded to the following people who lost in the play-off in a tie game for a turkey, Lena Koene, Dawna Westlake, Madelon McIllwain, Peter Payne. Sunday School Party Scheduled Trinity Anglican Church Ladies Guild met Tuesday af- ternoon at the home of Mrs. Jeanne Bennett with 16 members present. The meeting opened ,by repeating the Lord's prayer in unison with the president, Mrs. Vera Turner in charge. Mrs. Bessie Hulls read a poem entitled "Because of Love" and one entitled "Here's Where the Old Year Ends". The president thanked Mrs. Bennett for having the meeting in her home and also to all who had helped at the Bazaar and Bake Sale held earlier. The secretary's report was read by Mrs. Ber- thena Hammond and the treasurer Mrs. Lorna Merner gave her report and also read a letter from the Guilds' Foster Child. Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons reported on Cards and Flowers sent out to sick and shut-ins and read the list of Christmas cards which she will send out. During the business session, plans were finalized for the Sunday School party on Sunday December 18. The January Scripture will be taken by Mrs. Fitzsimons and Mrs. Clara Wilson will be responsible for the , Poem. The Rector, Rev. William Bennett closed the meeting with prayer and The Grace, and Mrs Bennett served a lovely lunch Residents Enjoy Meal Twenty residents of Clan Si Gregor Apartments sat down at a �: beautifully decorated table to a sumptuous pot -luck supper on Friday evening. The Lounge was also decorated with poinsettia plants, Christmas cards and r Christmas decorations and a lovely tree. Following supper, Santa Claus (in the person of Reg York) arrived and distributed gifts to all present. Later in the evening, Cr;,... euchre and aggravation were played and enjoyed. On Saturday evening the residents again gathered in the Lounge for another supper, followed by games and Christmas Music There was also a record player in the Hall filling the building with Christmas music. Cubs Have Party a• • `*.:#`,`C Michael Clark and The Blue Six conducted games. A lovely lunch was served by the Ladies Auxiliary and a gift presented to all the leaders . The boys exchanged gifts and all made a Christmas gift for their mothers from detergent bottles. They all say thanks to the Auxiliary for the bag of goodies and for the gifts. Gifts Exchanged Bayfield Brownies met Saturday morning in the Parish Hall and enjoyed a Christmas party. Tanya Grillmeyer read a poem entitled "The First Christmas". Trudy Bornath sang a Christmas number and Luanne and Lydia Erickson wrote and directed a playlet about an Indians Christmas and included some of the other Brownies. The Ladies Auxiliary donated bags of candy to the Brownies and lovely gifts to the leaders. The girls exchanged gifts and made Santa Claus figures of foam and cotton batting with magnet backs to take home to their mothers. They all gathered and sang "Away in a Manger" and closed with Taps. They all say thanks to the L.A. for the goodies from the leaders for their lovely gifts. Candle Lit The third Advent Candle was lit by Gail Dunn in St. Andrew's United Church on Sunday mor- ning. Rev. Reddoch was in charge of the service, and the congregation were very pleased to have Mrs. Reddoch back after her lengthy stay indoors and following surgery. Sunday evening saw a good turnout of church members and guests from the other churches at their Candlelight Carol Service. Mrs. Molly Cox, choir director and organist was assisted by Andy Fraser who accompanied on the piano during several selec- tions. Wagon Ride Enjoyed The children of St. Andrew's United Church Sunday School along with their teachers were treated to a ride in Tom Penhales wagon pulled by a pair of beautiful Belgians as part of their Sunday School party on Saturday afternoon. They also viewed three films courtesy of Huron County Library and shown by John Siertsema. The children played games while waiting their turn for their ride. Santa arrived and handed out candy and gifts and a real tasty lunch was enjoyed. Each six was responsible for providing the entertainment of their choice. Mr. & Mrs. Ron Diemert, Karen and Brian, St. Marys visited Sunday with his family, Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Diemert, Wayne and Rick. Congratulations to JoAnne Sturgeon and Freda Hill, Bayfield One 4H Club and Karen Erb, Bayfield Two 4H Club who received their County Honors in Clinton on `Saturday. All three girls have completed 6 Clubs. Lessons Read Trinity Anglican Church celebrated the fourth Sunday in Advent on Sunday morning at their regular service. White Gift Sunday was observed and the Service of Lessons and Carols under the direction of the Rector, Rev. William Bennett. You are only what you are when no one is looking.
