December, 1967
A tragic fire early Saturday
morning took the life of Robert
Warren Williams, a bachelor who
lived alone on Mill Street in
Zurich.
A highly respected and
prominent citizen of Zurich,
Earnest Earl Weido, passed
away, suddenly at his home on
Saturday, December 2, in his
72nd year.
Joseph Hoffman, a Goshen line
farmer was the top man at the.
Hay township polls on Monday
and won the reeve's chair from
John Corbett, who had announced
his intentions to run for Warden
of the County of Huron next
month.
On Monday evening after
getting behind 4-1 the bantams
came on to defeat Blyth by a
score of 11-6.
Robert Willert scored the first
goal of the game on a play from
Jim Willert and Mark Kirk.
Blyth came on strong after the
initial goal and scored four goals
in succession but with only five
minutesremaining in the second
period, the local kids went on a
scoring rampage of their own and
went ahead 5-4.
Dietz snapped one home at
close range from Jim Willert and
then shortly afterwards after
taking _apass from Pat Cyr,
David Smith ,wound his way
down the ice to put one past the
Blyth goalie. Robert Willert
continued his more than goal a
game pace with an unassisted
goal. Nine seconds later Dietz
found the, range with Robert
Willert aiding the effort.
In the third period the bantams
popped in six goals with two
players accounting for two-thirds
of the scoring. Robert Willert and
Kris Bedard each had two goals.
Cyr and Chris notched the single
goals.
ROUGH GAME — A good deal of the action at Sunday's game was
with players going into and coming out of the penality box with a total
of 57 penalities called in the game. Mike Clarke, Ron Rader and an un-
identified Thedford player were involved in some rough action late in
the first period. The Flyers lost 11-3. Staff photo
RIGHT MACHINE, WRONG CONDITION — Doug Stade was one of many Zurich residents digging out
frond last weeks snow storm. While his truck was in fine mechanical condition, his snowmobile was not,
which meant that Doug was getting plenty of exercise both walking and shovelling. Staff photo

The service at the Hensall
United Church on Sunday was
conducted by Rev. Don Beck with
Mrs. John Turkheim at the
organ. This was the third Sunday
in Advent and the third advent
candle was lit by Dave Kyle; this
candle is pink, in contrast to the
others and signifies the joy in
Christmas. The choir sang the
anthem "Shepherds on the
hillside" and the title of the
sermon was 'And What of Us?' In
every crisis we can either turn to
God or away from Him - we can
no longer claim our lives as our
own if we give God control.
Many flower arrangements
adorned the sanctuary donated
by the families of the late Lorne
Chapman, Anna Dilling and
Donald McArthur and also
from the wedding of Patricia
Lemon and Larry Brown.
Hensel! Hockey
Hensall has three hockey
teams playing this winter, Pee
Wees, Bantams ' and Midgets.
Both bantam games were can-
celled due to the weather last
week, while pee wees lost to
Zurich 3-0. The Hensall boys
played a good game, in spite of
losing, but Zurich came along
strong, scoring one in the second
period and twice in the third.
