Former mayor named judge
A former mayor of Exeter,
William G. Cochrane, has been
appointed a provincial court
judge in the criminal division for
Huron.
The appointment was an-
nounced Friday by Attorney -
General Roy McMurtry.
Cochrane, 63, now a resident of
Goderich, has been Crown at-
torney in Huron since 1962.
Before that, he practised law in
his home town of Exeter.
He was elected mayor in 1952
and before that served as reeve
and councillor. A former member
of the Huronia Male Chorus,
Cochrane is a past chairman of
the South Huron Hospital board
and of the Exeter Public Utilities

president of the Exeter Lions and
past master of the Masonic
Lodge.
He served in the army for four
years during World War 11.
While his appointment as a
judge was effective on Monday,
he will not preside over any cases
until he is sworn in at special •
ceremonies scheduled for early
January.
His appointment fills the
vacancy created by the death of
