Plan Bayfield town hall rehabilitation
By MILVENA ERICKSON
Members of the Town Hall
committee and the New Horizons
committee met last Thursday
evening to discuss - the
rehabilitation of Bayfield's Town
Hall.
The meeting appointed Harry
Baker chairman; Ed Oddleifson,
vice-chairman; Dorothy Cox,
secretary; Dalton Smith, New
Horizons treasurer, and Gordon
Graham health and Welfare
treasurer,
The purpose of the meeting was
to discuss what should be done
with the town hall and the costs of
the project. Some of the priorities
named in order of importance,
were flush toilets, insulation and
paint, a new chimney, new raf-
ters where necessary, electric
heating, 400 amp service, lining
and painting the basement,
improving stage lighting, new
dressing rooms, refrigerator and'
electric stove, loud speaker and
microphone.
It was definitely decided to
retain the wood furnace and the
wood cook stove in the basement.
It was also felt the building
should be restored to reflect its
historic significance.
A lovely bridal shower was
given to honour Mary McFadden,
whose marriage to David Bolton
takes place Saturday September
17, Wednesday last in St.
Andrew's United Church
basement. Baskets of various
shades of gladioli and fern and
fall flowers and ivy hanging from
an upturned umbrella, wedding
bells and streamers added a
bright and artistic touch to the
room,
Mrs. Vina Parker, Mary's
former school teacher, read a
story on the courtship of the
young couple and a game of "tell
all about yourself" was played.
Shirley Boyce won a prize for
having her birthday nearest that
of the bride. Judy Huntley was.
awarded a gift for having her
birthday nearest that of the
groom and Eva Darnbrough was
given a gift for having her
wedding anniversary nearest
that of Mary and Dave.
Mrs. Vera Turner Hien showed
some slides of the 1976 centennial
of the village. Several were
hilarious.
Corsages were pinned on Mary,
her mother and. sisters, Shirley
and Cathy, who were escorted to
chairs at the front of the room.
There Wendy Penhale read a
very appropriate address. Jayne
Sturgeon presented the gifts to
the bride-to-be. Mary was
assisted in opening them by her
mother and sisters. She then
expressed her thanks to
everyone.

Congratulations to all who
participated in this fine display.
Much credit goes to Harvey

the bluebirds.
