Area accidents investigated
Three minor car collisions
The Exeter OPP investigated
three accidents this week,
resulting in minor injuries to two
people.
Both, those occurred in an
accident on Friday when vehicles
driven. by Randy Somerville,
Huron Park, and John Dayman,
Exeter, collided on Highway 83 at
the junction., of Usborne con-
cession 2-3.
Somerville and his passenger,
Elizabeth Giffin, Exeter,
received minor injuries.
Damage was estimated at
$1,020 by Constable Jack
Straughan.
A Saturday collision resulted in
damage of $2,000 to vehicles
driven by Dennis Charrette,
Hensall, and William Page, RR 2
Grand Bend.
They collided at the in-
tersection of the Crediton Road
and Stephen 2.
Constable Dale Lamont in-
vestigated.
The other accident occurred on
Sunday when vehicles driven by
Ray Glanville, RR 1 Hensall, and
Bradley Barnes, Exeter, collided

year - mainly snow removal.
It was expected that the John
Street drain would be completed
in a few days and the gravelling
done on the shoulder and at the
drain site. Reference was made
to badly needed kidewalks on
Goshen; but no decision about
work on these next year could be
made until it was known what
funds would be available.
Council decided to plant grass
seed on the strip of public land in
front of the new veterinary clinic.
The ,quotation for laying sod had
proved too high.
Among various letters con-
sidered was one concerning
proposed group benefits for
municipal employees, which
stated that a meeting would be
held in Goderich October 5 in the
Council Chambers. Reeve Fred
Haberer considered costs a little
out of line in view of price and
wage controls and said most
employees would'probably prefer
pay increases to such benefits.
Participating municipalities
would have to accept the entire
:pack ge, not parts of it.Zurich's
clerk will attend the October
meeting.
Council rejected a proposal by
IBM Canada to set up an interim
tax bill system, on the gound that
it would only create more paper
work for the clerk. It was noted
that council members had been
invited to attend the official
opening September 16 of the new
senior citizens apartments' on
Main Street East.
Finally, a schedule of fees was
set for use of the village's new
photocopier. One, two or three
copies will cost 50 cents a piece,
while four copies will cost $1.50.
on County Road 21 south of the
Crediton Road.
Damage was listed at $550 by
Constable Frank Giffin,
During the week, the local
detachment officers charged 13
people under the Highway Traffic
Act and another four under the
Liquor Licence Act.
The police advise that they still
have a man's 10 -speed bicycle in
their possession, It was found in
July east of Exeter and the owner
may claim it at the office.

Seek rate review
f r Zurich hydro
It's too soon to tell whether
Zurich may have to boost hydro
rates or not, according to Public
Utilities manager Charles Eckel.
Later in the year the annual
municipal study will be done.
Meanwhile, at its August 29
meeting the Zurich Hydro
Electric System agreed to ask
Ontario Hydro's Western Region
to conduct a rate review study.
Municipalities are asked by
- Ontario Hydro each year whether
they want such a study:' it' lets
them know` whether provincial
hydro rates are going up, and this
in turn affects rates set locally.
Ontario Hydro's increases in
charges to municipalities are tied
to capital expenditures.
Mr. Eckel foresaw very little
increase in local rates unless
provincial rates went up.
In other business at its August
29 meeting, the Zurich group
decided to apply to Ontario Hydro
for approval of a capital works
program of $7,200... The money
will not be spent on any par-
ticular new undertaking but on
improvement of existing services
- such as replacement of hydro
lines on certain streets.
The committee also agreed to
ask council to install the mercury
vapour light and fluorescent
light fixtures that are in stock.
Council, at its meeting the next
night, gave approval.
The committee of council
operating the Zurich Hydro and
Water System consists of
chairman Leroy Thiel, Reeve
Fred Haberer, councillor Isidore
Laporte and P.U.C. manager
Charles Eckel.
