Friday night one of seven
beautiful and popular girls will be
crowned Queen at the annual At
Home dance' at South Huron
District High School.
The new Queen will be crowned
at the stroke of midnight by last
year's winner Brenda Neil.
Tension is mounting this week
as the girls and their campaign
workers strive to get the votes of
the students.
Balloting is done secretly and
the results will not be made
known until student council
president Phil Knight opens the
envelope 'at midnight and makes
the announcement to the large
crowd which is expected to be in
attendance.
The theme of this year's dance
is "The Greatest Show On Earth"
and the gymnasium will be
decorated to create a circus
atmosphere.
One of the
students is 18
Miller, RR 3,
parents are Mr.
Miller.
Vickie who has been a valuable
and enthusiastic member of the
Exeter figure skating club for
many years will be making the
sport her profession.
She has been accepted by the
Holiday On Ice show and will be
leaving; May 31 to join the troupe
in Brasilia, South America.
Another grade 13 student
Heather Dougherty plans to
make a career in the travel field.
She is 19 years of age and the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Dougherty, Exeter.
Heather, this year's social
convener on the South Huron
student council plans to attend
university and study languages
which will be useful in her travel
career.
For the summer she is em-
ployed at the Ironwood Golf
Course. Her hobbies are swim-
ming, boating and biking:
The third student from grade 13
is Laurie Becker from Dashwood.
She is 18 and her parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Becker.
Laurie plans to attend Huron
College at the University of
Western Ontario in the fall and
eventually become involved in
teaching and working with the
mentally retarded.
She is presently a member of
YACMR and enjoys planning
social activities with the adults at
ARC Industries at Dashwood.
Laurie is a member of the
SHDHS yearbook staff and is
employed as a waitress this
summer at the Oakwood Inn at
Grand Bend.
Completing grade 12 this year
is 17 year-old Dianne Ducharme
of RR 2, Zurich. Her parents are
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ducharme.
Dianne is a member of the
"school yearbook staff and enjoys
reading and" playing the guitar.
In the fall Dianne plans on
moving to London and taking a
job in the commercial field or
may enroll at Westervelt
Business College.
Michelle Robinson, another
grade 12 student is the daughter
of June and Bob Robinson, RR 1,
Kirkton.
Michelle is the treasurer on the
1977-78 student council at South
Huron, has been a counsellor at
Camp Sylvan in recent years and
a member of the school's
cheerleading team.
She teachers tap dancing to
area youngsters and her many
hobbies include swimming,
skiing, dancing, making afghans'
and crewel, playing piano and
canoeing. She also teaches
Sunday School classes.
After completing her high
school studies Michelle plans to
become a Registered Nurse.
Deb Ford, an 18 year-old grade
12 student from Grand Bend
plans to make a career in the
travel field. Her parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Iry Ford.

While completing grade 12, Deb
- has been taking a correspon-
dence course at Westervelt
Travel Institute and will cpm-
plete her course there this
summer.
She recently received
Provincial Honours in 4-H and is
vice-president of the school's
student council.
The fourth grade 13 student is
19 year-old Tina Martens, RR1,
Dashwood. She is the daughter of
Martin Martens and the late
Magdalena Martens.
Tina plans to attend Waterloo
University at the completion of
high school to study in the field of
psychology.
