Zurich Citizens News, 1977-05-25, Page 6Page 6 Citizens News, May 25, 1977 BLUE WATER REST HOME Golden Glimpses The air is so fresh and sweet from all the blossoming shrubs and trees that the Residents are really enjoying the outdoors these days. Since this was the holiday weekend it was an ideal time for Residents to get together with their families. We welcome Miss Marie Gelinas as a new Resident to the Home. Miss Gelinas was born at Drysdale 99 years ago so no doubt she has many friends and relatives around this area. Thanks to the assistance of Wintario, the occupants of Maplewoods are enjoying a table shuffleboard in the recreation room. On Tuesday evening, the ladies of the Chiselhurst United Church sponsored the monthly birthday party. They provided ,a programme of piano and violin music and also played bingo. Following the programme ice cream and birthday cake was served. Residents having birthdays during the month of Maw and receiving gifts, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary, were Mrs. Ethel Appleton, Mrs. Emma Bennewies, Mrs. Jennette Finnigan and Mrs. Anne Oligny, On Thursday afternoon a bus ride was enjoyed to the Seaforth, Clinton areas. At pre- sent the bus is quite a popular means of entertainment, unless of course, the weather becomes too hot and humid. Perhaps many of you read the article on the installation•of the whirlpool bath. Erroneously the paper stated that the bath was a donation of Mr. Edwin Sittler and should have read from the Estate of the late Mr. Edwin Steckle of Zurich. If any students who are in- terested in the volunteer programme assisting Residents in the Home and have not con- tacted the president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs. Louis Farwell, RR 3, Zurich, perhaps you will do so very soon. Bingo was played on Friday afternoon rather than evening. The Sunday evening chapel service was conducted by Rev. George Anderson of the Exeter Anglican church. Queensway Belated birthday greetings to residents "Belated Birthday Greetings" to May Ford May 28 arid Aleida Katz, May 24. Church service was conducted by Rev. Van Essen accompanied by Mrs. Van Essen. United Church ladies entertained with music and bingo. Visitors recently were Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Smith with Lynn Latimer and friends. Shirley Prouty visited Lynn Latimer, Vera Lammie, Isobel Sproat, Almeeda Parsons and Alex Barrett. Cathy and Marion Schenk visited Hugo Schenk. Mrs. E. Mcldole, Parkhill visited Isobel Brintnell. Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Taylor visited Adeline Taylor. Bill and Alma Schwartz visited Lou Wuerth. Howard and Marion Johns and Mary Neil visited Mabel Johns. The collection to be auctioned is being assembled by Sharon Theobald, international art consultant, who has con- ducted similar fund raising events in Toronto, Kitchener and Montreal. One of Ms. Theobald's recent auctions filled to capacity the Crystal. Ballroom at Toronto's King Edward Hotel, The collection to be sold at auction may include works by Picasso, Miro and Henry Moore, as well as works by leading Canadian painters. "A complete list will be released in a month's time", said Ms. Theobald. Josephine Wilcox, London who is co-ordinating the event for the Playhouse said the auction should attract not only ex- perienced collectors, but first time buyers as well. "But whether or not one buys one of the art works, the event promises to b a fun and entertaining ex- perience", she said. An informal dinner and drinks will be served in the Playhouse court yard before and during the auction, The collection will be on exhibition at the Playhouse beginning at 2 p.m. on the day of the auction. The auction will begin at 8:15 p.m. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m.. Admission to the auction is $3 per person, Tickets will go on sale July 5. Varna by Mrs. Bill 1Chessell A community shower was held recently for -Mary Lou McKinley in the Sunday School room of Goshen Church. Several of the neighborhood ladies ad-libbed their way through a funny skit titled "Planning Mary Lou's Shower". Musical numbers were played by Julie Armstrong and Ruth. Martin, and by Lisa and Lauralee Robinson. Becky McKinley did a tap-dance number and everyone par- ticipated in a musical contest: The skit wound up with the group singing "All Day, AU Night, Mary Lou". Mary Lou was presented with many lovely gifts, and with one of her father's campaign hats, decorated with a few ribbons from the gifts. She thanked the ladies, and a pleasant social time followed.
