Bomb explosion
There were some anxious
parents in the area on Sunday
when they heard of the bomb
explosion in the airport in the
Canary Islands where a plane
load of students were getting
ready to leave for home. Sandra
Webster, Anne Marie Heard and
Beverly Cantelon were among
about 30 students of Clinton High
School who spent last week in the
Canarylslandswith students from
many parts of the province. The
wall of the room where they had
been a little earlier was blown in,
They arrived home safely on
Sunday night, a little shaken
from their close call.

'Interest grows, Stanley has
second planning meeting
There is a good deal of interest
being expressed by the residents
of at least one township in Huron
County concerning the future
development of that township.
Stanley township has been
holding planning meetings on
Tuesday nights and the turnouts
and discussions have been very
encouraging.
Last Tuesday, March 21, was
the second in the six meetings
scheduled in the township con-
cerning the development of their
secondary plan and over 80
people were present.
The purpose of the meetings is
to get some public input into the
formation of the townships
secondary plan with specific
areas being discussed at each
meeting.
The last meeting, dealt with
agriculture's place in the
township. Among other things the
discussion dealt with severance
policies concerning the severing
of excess farm houses, of retiring
farmers' homes, lots and areas
for farmers children. Concern
was expressed by some present
that the severance of surplus
farm houses would lead to an
increase in housing not planned
for. For instance, there could be
41STEIt
farmers building houses,
declaring them surplus and
having them severed and selling
them and then turning around
and repeating the process unless
the township is very stringent
with the number and kind of
severances allowed.
Also discussed at the meeting
were the amounts of urban
development which should be
allowed in the township, par-
ticularly along the lake front and
the use the Bayfield river valley
should be put to.
The meetings are taking the
form of public forums and no
specific commitments are being
made by the planning committee
at the county or township level.
What they are trying to do is
discover, through public input,
just' what the majority of the
ratepayers want the future of
Stanley township to be.
So far the meetings have been a
great success and are being held
every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in
the Varna Township hall from
now until April 12.

Protect your children
against disease
through immunization
This is what Ontario
is doing to help you.
Immunization protects against polio, diphtheria, measles,
rubella (German measles), whooping cough, mumps
and tetanus. Although often considered to be "childhood
diseases," they are anything but minor-- measles, for
instance, can lead to encephalitis (brain disease), a
cause of retardation.
Here in Ontario, the Ministry" of Health provides the
vaccines and your Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)
pays a fee to the physician for administering them.
But the responsibility for immunization— for making
sure your children are protected—is still up to you. Have
your children immunized by your family physician. Or, for
school age children, use school immunization programs
provided by Health Units.
Immunization is quick and convenient—vaccines
against several diseases are often combined. And the only
way to control these diseases is to immunize as many
people as possible.
Your Ontario Government is doing its share— by
providing vaccines and paying for immunization
through OHIP.
Do your share— make sure your children are immunized.
Consult your family physician, public health nurse or
local medical officer of health.
A free booklet, "Immunization is your responsibility,"
is available with a chart showing what diseases your
children should be immunized against, and at what ages.
