Zurich Citizens News, 1977-01-26, Page 10RENS Page 10 Citizens News, January 26, 1977 Dashwood by Mrs. Irvbit Rader Mrs. Wilbur Stewart, London, was a recent visitor with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Gaiser and girls. Mrs. Gerald Mason underwent surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Friday, January 21. Mrs. Elgin Rader has returned home after spending a week at Bramalea with Pastor and Mrs. Arthur Rader, Marc, Sarah and baby Jonathon David. Bridal shower Darlene Ziler was honored with a third shower at London when the hostess Mrs. Jeanette Scott held a miscellaneous shower at her home for relatives and friends of the groom. Those in attendance were from Brampton, Exeter, Dashwood, London and Mount Carmel. In last week's paper the names of the two good friends, Nancy Rader and Ethel Masse were missed. UW meet Like nearly everything else the United Church Women of Calvary cancelled their meeting of January 11 to the 19. The executive was in charge with the new president, Mrs. Hugh Boyle presiding. She gave the fourteen members present a warm welcome, Mrs. Jack Gaiser read the scripture followed by prayer by Mrs. Boyle. A skit, "Madam X and the UCW." was presented with the following taking part, Mrs. Clayton Merner, Mrs. Wm. Chandler, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Don Gaiser and Mrs. Jack Gaiser. Mrs. Don Gaiser lead a discussion on "UCW Looks at Purpose". Everyone took part in a lively discussion. Mrs. Boyle conducted the business. The Huron Perth Presbyterial will be held at Seaforth. The annual church meeting is January 30. World Day of Prayer will be held at Dashwood United Church, March 4. The Sunshine Committee is Mrs. Hugh Boyle and Mrs. Bruce Guy. Achievement Day Almost 40 girls from the three clubs sponsored by Dashwood W.I. took part in Achievement Day at Stephen Central School for the 4-11 project, "The Cereal Shelf". Three girls, Joan Finkbeiner, Barbara Rader and Teresa VanRaay received their County honors and four girls, Carolyn Hartman, Donna Riddell, Jayne Hayter and Laurie Becker received their Provincial honors. Zion Church learns t�.et working nd ia 's�. � ,' r 1, Mr. & Mrs. Gene Wilson and children from St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Holt, Michigan, were at Zion Lutheran Church Sunday to bring us up to date on their church's project, "Project India". Gene showed by means of filmstrip and sound track what he and six others had accomplished as a team in six months of hard work in India. He also gave ,personal testimony and tho n why they serve. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love ere in Sarnia, Saturday to see their grandsons, Dan and David Love who were playing on one of the Sudbury teams in the Silver Stick hockey tournament. Their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Don Love were among the parents who had accompanied the boys ii on the bus. They all visited with Mr. & Mrs. Clare Love and family in Sarnia. Monday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love were Mr. & Mrs. Wilmer Harrison, Goderich and Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill, Crediton. The occasion marked Mrs. Harrison's birthday. Don Gaiser accompanied by Mrs. Cora Gaiser and Miss Pearl Kraft motored to Florida where, they visited with Mr. & Mrs, Ray' Kretzman and boys at Margate. Don and Miss Kraft returned home last week accompanied by Mrs. Maida Baynham of Exeter who had flown down.Mrs. Gaiser is staying for some time. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Miller and girls, Zion, were Sunday evening callers with Mr, & Mrs. Irvin Rader. h The three boys basketball teams at South Huron District High School enjoyed a very successful week with two vic- tories apiece. In a Huron -Perth tripleheader in Clinton Thursday they scored three victories over clubs from Central Huron. The South Huron midgets won by a score of 42-14, the juniors were successful 54-22 and the seniors chalked up their first win of the season by a score of 34-32. In exhibition play in Seaforth, Friday night, the South Huron teams again swept all three contests. The midgets triumphed 32-16, the juniors eked out a 48-47 decision and the seniors won by a score of 66-47. The three local high school teams were in Palmerston yesterday, Wednesday to meet Norwell in regularly scheduled games. In the midget win over Clinton, Thursday, Brian Mercer led the South Huron cagers with a 16 point performance. Kevin Shiels with an 18 point effort was best in the junior triumph. Peter DeKoker was next with 16 points and Dave Atthill ntoched six points. The senior victory was paced by Dave Holtzmann with an even dozen points. Peter Datars was next in line with 10 points and Paul Brooks added six points. Doug Brooks and Dale Alexander each scored six points to pace the South Huron midget win over Seaforth. The junior victory by a score of 48-47 was accomplished in the dying moments. Kevin Shiels hit with a successful two pointer as the buzzer sounded. Shiels was top point getter for South Huron with 23 points. Getting six points apiece were Peter De Koker and Paul Brooks fired in 27 points to lead the SH seniors • to their 66-47 victory. Dave Holtzmann was next with an output of 16 points and Paul Gaiser scored 11 points.
