Bantams win Silver Stick tourney
ZURICH 6 - DORCHESTER 1
In "B3" play, Zurich came up
with a slow start, after Dor-
chester scored in the first
minute of play. However, near
the middle of the frame, Jim
Willert tied the score, aided
by Chris Denomme and Kerry
Bedard. Two more goals were
added in the second period.
First, Kerry Bedard poked
one by, assisted by Robert
Willert and Mark Regier. Then
Robert Willert netted one
aided by Mark Regier.
Zurich came out flying in the
last frame when they scored
three more unanswered goals.
In the first minute of play,
Robert Willert blasted one by
on a sole effort. Later on in the
period, Mike Haggitt assisted
on Robert Willert's third goal
of the game. Kerry Bedard
notched the final counter with
assists going to Jim Willert
and Kris Bedard.
ZURICH 2 - MILVERTON 2
In a well -played contest,
Zurich came up with the edge in
play but couldn't manage better
than a tie. Milverton scored two
quick goals in the middle of the
first period by Dreer and White
and held the edge until the last
frame.
Robert Willert finally slam-
med one by the pipes at the
start of the period aided by
Pat Cyr.
Then near the end Kerry
Bedard netted the tying goal
with assists going to Jim
Willert and Chris ,Denomme.

OCTOBER b
. Zurich Lions authorized a
donation of $4,000 to be paid to
the Zurich Community Center
Fund Raising Committee.
Area residents had the
opportunity to take a nature
hike at the Bannockburn wild-
life conservation area, east of
Varna.
... For the first time in a num-
ber of years a ,_;urich man has
been charged with keeping
liquor for sale.
OCTOBER 13
Close to 400 ratepayers,
mostly from Stanley and Tuck-
ersmith Townships attended a
meeting with the Boundary
Review committee of the Huron
Board of Education; while no
final decisions on boundary
changes were made, the rate-
payers were given represen-
tation on the boundary committ-
ee to ensure their wishes are
heard.
. Stanley township reeve
Anson McKinley decides not to
run for re-election after 14
years in municipal life.
. . The Zurich and District
Bean Festival committee donate
$10,000 towards the renovations
for the community centre.
OCTOBER 20
Zurich council decides it
is not interested in joining a
South Huron Recreation League
as proposed by Exeter.
... Jack Tinney decides to run
again for the position he holds
as reeve of Hay township.
. . . The first heavy snowfall
of the year allows Zurich young-
sters to build their snowmen.
OCTOBER 27
The Zurich Minor Athletic
Association donates $1,500
to the community centre fund
raising.
. Nick Hill, town and country
planner, has completed a study
on the core area of Zurich and
makes no sweeping recommen-
dations, rather a sprucing up.
NOVEMBER 3
Herb Turkheim decides to
run for a position on the Huron
County Board of Education for
another term.
Contests for Hallowe'en
costumes are held at the Zurich
public school with most of the
students taking part.
Zurich Golden Agers hold
their official opening at the Hay
Township hall.
NOVEMBER 10
. The community centre fund
hits the $25,000 mark.
Ice will be in the Zurich
arena within two days.
. Slippery roads are partly to
blame for a rash of area accid-
ents.
Corn harvest is behind as
the amount of snow received in
the past few days hinders
harvesting.
NOVEMBER 17
There will be no municipal
elections in Zurich as council is
in by acclamation with Fred
Haberer as reeve:
In Hay township Jack
Tinney is challenged for the
position of reeve by Joseph
Hoffman.
Stanley council is in by
acclamation with Thomas Con-
sitt acclaimed as reeve.
... Winter conditions continue
to plague area drivers this
week.
NOVEMBER 24
.. Bill Livingston won the geld
medal at the Intermediate Boys
Cross Country meet.
. Recreation costs emerge as
the main issue in Hay Township•
following a ratepayers meeting.
.. . Leo Masse of Zurich be-
comes one of the first to receive
his swine flu vaccination.
DECEMBER 1
• The Hensall United Church
men put on a very popular
smorgasborg supper in the
church.
Zurich community centre
fund hits the $30,000 mark.
Santa Claus pays a visit
to Drysdales in Hensall.
DECEMBER 8
. Only one incumbent secures
a position on Hensall council;
Paul Neilands, and Hensall's
reeve by acclamation is Harold
Knight
Bendix laid off 204 of its
207 employees.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Jones of Hensall celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary
with an Open House.
DECEMBER 15
. Herb Turkheim announces
he will seek another term as
chairman of the Huron County
Board of Education.
The Zurich Parks and
Recreatin Board announced the
deficit this year will only be
$5,000, a far cry from what had
first been anticipated.
DECEMBER 22
. . For the end of the year,
the communtiy centre fund
stands at $33,577, less than
$2,000 from its goal.
.. Santa Claus visits the public
school to listen to Christmas
requests and pass out candy.
. The St. Boniface Council of
the C.W.L. held their annual
pot luck supper.
The Zurich Bantams were
flying when they played Blyth
December 22. Zurich pumped in
four goals in the first period, six
in the second period and the
final goal in the last :period to
defeat Blyth 11 to 3.
Blyth gained their goals two
in the first period and one in
the second.
The scoring was shared
among eight players. Robert
Willert scored four goals and
assisted on three. Jim Willert
scored three times and singles
went to Kerry Bedard, Kris
Bedard, Mike Haggitt and Len
Van Wonderen. Mike Haggitt
and Mark Regier each assisted
on three goals while single
assists were gained by Chris
Denomme, Kerry Bedard, Len
Van Wonderen and Kris Be-
dard.
ZURICH 14 - MONKTON 8
There was lots of scoring in a
game played December 23 as
the Zurich Bantams defeated
Monkton 14 to 8 despite the
fact only seven Zurich players
and one goalie went to play at
Monkton.
Zurich outscored the oppos-
ing team six to two in the
first period, four to three in the .
second and four to two in the
last.
Five goals were tallied by
Robert Willert, four by Kerry
Bedard, three by Jim Willert
and singles went to Kris Bedard
and Chris Denomme. Three
assists were gained by Jim
Willert, two by Robert Willert,
one by Kerry Bedard and one by
Chris Denomme.
