Christmas Day were Mr. and

Lean and family of Mt. Bryd-
ges, Mr. and Mrs. F. Luciani
and family of London, and Mr.
and Mrs. Jake De Ruyter and
family, Clinton.
We'd like to welcome Jim
and Dianne Kirton and child-
ren to the village. They moved
into their apartment over the
store last weekend.
Congratulations to Don and
Debra Rathwell, whose baby
boy was born on Sunday,
December 19, in St. Joseph's
Hospital. They have named him
David Thomas.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reid
entertained members of the
Reid family at a dinner on
Monday, December 13. Present
were Mrs. Geo. Reid and Doug
and Peggy Reid of Varna, and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker, Mr.
and Mrs. R.J. Larson, Mrs. Ed
Reid and Mrs. Beulah Smith
of Bayfield. On Sunday they
had a Christmas gathering for
20 members of Bernice's
family.
We'd like to extend a warm
welcome from the community to
Joyce Scott, who moved the
week before Christmas from
Bayfield into the home she
purchased recently from the
Hayters.
Bob and June Webster and
girls spent Sunday, December
19, at a family gathering at
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tinney's
home in Exeter. On Christmas
Day they were in Clinton at
Mr. and Mrs. Mel Webster's.
Paul and Elaine Stephenson
and girls were at a family
gathering at Mr. and Mrs Elmer
Stephenson's, Egmondville, the
Saturday before Christmas. On
Christmas Day, Elaine's family
gathered at their home. Present
were Mrs. Orville Beuermann,
Glen and Betty, Ron McCallum,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill McClure and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Neil
Beuermann and family, all of
the Winthrop area, and Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Taylor and family
and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mussel -
man and family of Stratford.
Barry and Pat Taylor joined
them for the evening.

Chessell on Christmas Day and
Sunday were members of their
family, Norman and Susan and
children, Paul and Sheila, and
Marion Chessell, and , Pete
LeSouder, all of Stratford.
Barry and Pat Taylor and

Taylor were with Bob and Willa
Taylor on Christmas Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Murdock
Morrison and Gary, Miss Donna
Frey of Seaforth and Doug and
Mildred McAsh and family
were with Murray and Peggy
Morrison of Ilderton on Christ-
mas Day. On Sunday the Mc -
Ash family gathered at Doug
and Mildred's. Present were
Mrs. John McAsh of Huron -
view, Floyd McAsh of Hamil-
ton, Murray and Peggy Morris-
on and family of Ilderton, Bill
and Eleanor and Brian and
Joan and family.
Christmas guests with Mer-
vyn and Margaret Hayter were
Mrs. Minnie Hayter of Huron -
view, Mrs. Glenn of Exeter,
Mrs. Reta Upshall of Bayfield,
and Glenn and Lois and Dar-
lene.
The Hayter families gathered
at the home of Ross and Donna
McBeath on Tuesday.
Lloyd and Nora Heard and
family spent Christmas Day
with Joe and Alice Brandon and
family of Bayfield.
Bill and Helen Taylor and all
of their family were with
Helen's mother, Mrs. Russell
Erratt, for Christmas.
WEDDING
A pretty wedding took place
in Varna United Church on
Monday, December 27, when
Dawn La Liberte of Seaforth and
Ross Elliott of RR 2, Staffa,
were united in marriage. The
bride is the daughter of Mrs.
Henry La Liberte of Toronto,
and the groom is the son of
Mrs. Florence Elliott of Varna.
Rev. Alex Taylor performed the
ceremony. The organist, Mrs.
Douglas McAsh, played the
wedding music. Given in marri-
age by her grandfather, Mr.
Arie Glim of Seaforth, the
bride wore a satin palazzo
pant suit and carried two red
roses. The matron of honour
was Mrs. Bruce Elliott of
Toronto, who wore a floor -
length blue and white organdy
dress and carried one red rose.
Bruce Elliott, brother of the
groom, was best man. The
bride's mother wore a black
velvet pant suit, and the
groom's mother a wine pant
suit. Ushers were Roy Elliott
of Egmondville and Norman
Smith of Varna. Following the
wedding, a smorgasbord dinner
was served at the bridal coup-
le's home, RR 2, Staffa.
Guests were present from
Beamsville, Toronto, Grimsby,
Caledonia, St. Catharines, Kit-
chener, Ripley, Dungannon,
Walton, Seaforth, St. Marys,
Holmesville, Egmondville and
Varna.
Watford defeats Flyers
In a game played December
27 at Huron Park, the Zurich
Flyers were defeated by Wat-
ford by a score of 7 to 5.
The game started well for
Zurich as they came up with
three goals to Watford's one in
the first period, and tied them
at two goals in the second.
Unfortunately, for Zurich, in
the third period Watford got
it together and managed to
score four times in the third,
two of them coming on power
plays. Zurich was held score-
less in the third period, thus
losing the game by a score of
7 to 5.
Steve Bedour scored twice
for Zurich as did Glen Overholt.
The other Zurich goal was
scored by Ken Smale, Pat
Bedard took three assists with
two going to Glen Overholt and
one each to Steve Haberer and
Bob Farquhar.
Most valuable player in the
game for Zurich was Pat
Bedard; for Watford, David
Marshall.
Peewees defeated
in close game

In the first period at 2:08 in
the game between Milverton
and Zurich, captain Mark Kirk
whistled the puck by the
Milverton goalie assisted by
Dave Smith.
Milverton wasn't giving up
when in the first period at 4:33
Brint Hurras tucked a lucky one
behind the Zurich goalie assist-
ed by Murray Dewar.
Still in the first period at
8:40 Jamie Dewar put one by
the Zurich goalie unassisted.
It happened in the second
period at 2:00 when Rob
Grenier put the rubber disc by
the Milverton goalie.
At 3:52 in the second period
Hil Whestman put one by the
Zurich goalie assisted by
Ron Bowman.
In the third period at 2:25
Kevin Henry tucked another
one by the Zurich goalie,
leaving the score 4-2 for Milver-
ton.

Mrs. Tillie Tetreau, age 91,
had her first ski-doo ride on
Boxing Day.
Mrs. Marie Pask spent Chris-
tmas in Strathroy with relatives.

spent the Christmas holiday
with her son, Corporal Allen
and Mrs. Thiel and family in
Whiterock, B.C.
