Zurich Citizens News, 1978-11-09, Page 14Page 14 Citizens News, November 9, 1978 Lutheran Church ladies have new guild The November meeting of Zion Lutheran Church Ladies' Aid was held Wed- nesday with group one and Mrs. Ernest Koehler, con- vener, in charge of devotions and lunch. In the absence of the pastor, Mrs. Mellecke had the topic, "Handling Dashwood Mrs. Irvin Rader worry, fear and anxiety". This was a tape by H. Nor- man Wright. He asked three questions, "What did you worry about this past week?" How much time do you think you spent in worry?" and "What were the consequences?" He also discussed phobia — an in- tense irrational fear. He also dealt with the first time the word imagination was used in the Bible -Genesis 6 verse 5; chapter 8 verse 21. Mrs. Lorne Genttner, president, presided for the business. There were 26 members answered the roll call and 2 visitors. The altar Guild reported 15 visits and the new Guild is Mrs. Howard Datars and Mrs. Harvey Beierling. Donations were made to the Family Service, the church mission fund, Lutherwood, and St. Catharines Seminary. Mrs. Albert Miller, who is moving to Kitchener, was presented with a gift. Mrs. Esther Salmon, who is making new stoles for the minister, was given a donation, Group Two is in charge of the December meeting. Mrs. fp Freida Hayter had closing devotions. Attend teacher's workshop Eleanor Salmon, Mrs. M. Mellecke, Mrs. Howard Datars, Mrs. Delmar Miller and Jayne Hayter attended the Ontario District Sunday School Teachers' workshop at Grace Lutheran church, Kitchener, Saturday, November 4. The theme was "The growing Sunday School Teacher". Country Playhouse is mak- ing to the region." The Playhouse reports a break-even budget for the current year, boasting an 80% attendance for the season. With operations now in the black, the Playhouse wants to raise an additional $10,000 of "financing" funds. The Playhouse Board of Trustees is seeking out one hundred people to give $100 each. The "100 Club" would be special friends of the Playhouse contributing to a "one time only" financing drive. The special drive will be headed up by Dave Shep- pard, a member of the Playhouse Board of Trustees. On the capital side of things, the Playhouse, which financed its development through a seven year bank loan, looks forward to a retired mortgage in the near future. Final meeting The final meeting of Dash- wood Club 2 was held Monday with twelve members present to judge tea biscuits. After a debate on whether or not nutritious foods can be bought at cafeterias and restaurants the meeting adjourned. Honour deporting choir member The senior choir of Zion Lutheran Church held a pot luck supper in the church basement Sunday, November 5, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller who are leaving to make their home in Kitchener. Twenty members and six guests were present. Following supper, they were presented a gift. A sing song was held and crokinole played with winners, Ger- trude Miller and Melvin Stade; low, Florence Martene and Paul Mellecke. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Bill Chandler visited Saturday with Mr. & Mrs. Sheldon Gould at Windsor Western hospital where Mrs. Gould is a patient. Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Eckstein have moved to Maplewoods apartments, Zurich. Mr. & Mrs. Ron Braid, Elmira, were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Stade and Sherry. Mrs. Eben Weigand, president of Dashwood W.I. attended the W.I. convention at the Banqueter, London, last week. Miss Vickie Miller left this week for Munich and other cities in Germany where she will be once again rehearsing with the Holiday on Ice skating show. December 20 the show will be leaving Germany for a tour of the Far East. The first stop being Taiwan. From there they will be skating in Japan, the Phillipines and Australia. LOOKS GOOD — This pass from Gerald Weido to Pat Bedard looks like it could have resulted in a goal but the puck skittered past Bedard. The Buckeyes were defeated by the Goderich Merchants 13-3 in a game played Sunday.
