Severe wind -storm causes damage
A violent wind storm on
Saturday afternoon brought
down a number of trees and
large branches in the
Bayfield to Varna area.
A twister apparently
touched down at Wayne
Taylor's place. His im-
plement shed had its end

an inside wall was moved
quite a distance. Several
sheets of steel were stripped
off the barn and several
trees were torn apart. There
was extensive damage to his
car. A wagon was moved
about 50 feet. Then the

At John Ostrums on the
Parr Line, a spruce tree
broke off about 15 feet up and
landed on his car. Had the
car not been there, they felt
that the porch roof would
have been badly damaged.
There were a number of
power failures in the area as
well.
4-H clubs
Two 4-H clubs for girls 12
years and older are being
organized in the Varna area
for early fall. The topic is
Essential Edibles.If youwish
to join one of these 'clubs,

before the end of August.
Brenda DoWson and
Dianne Consitt received the
Provincial Honors Award
for completing 12 clubs in 4-
H work at the Achievement
Day in Clinton on Wednes-
day, August 16. Well done,
girls.
Ball games successful
A big crowd showed up' for
the ball games and corn
roast on Thursday evening
at the township ball park. In
the first game, a team from
the Front Road defeated the
Parr Line teams. In the se-
cond game, the Lakers came
out on top against a team
from the Second. Members
of the Recreation Com-
mittee supplied a generous
quantity of corn. and many
people brought hot dogs to
toast over the other camp-
fire.
Attend reception
There was a big crowd of
Varna people at the wedding
reception for Blaine and
Leisa Stephenson in Exeter
on Saturday night.
Enjoy holiday
Alex and Olive Murray
had a very enjoyable three-
week holiday in England and
Scotland in July. They
visited with relatives and
friends near Kendall,
England and Rothesay,
Scotland, which is on an
island in the Firth of Clyde,
western Scotland. The folks
from Kendall are planning a
trip to Canada next year.
Since the Murray's return-
ed, they have spent several
days camping' at Parry
Sound.
