Program offers
business help
Low cost management
consulting services for
small business is being
made available this year
through the Small Business
Assistance Program
(SBAP) of the Ontario
Ministry of Industry and.
Tourism.
The Minister of Industry
and Tourism, John R.
Rhodes, said the program
will involve 120 university
business administration
students supplying counsell-
ing services to small
businesses from May
through August.
Counselling by the
graduate students covers
such areas as cash manage-
ment and financial planning,
bookkeeping systems,
production scheduling and
cost control, marketing and
marketing research, dis-
tribution and promotion.
"The SBA Program offers
business counselling at a low
cost in areas essential for
the success of small
businesses," said Mr.
Rhodes.
Business administration
faculties of 12 Ontario
educational institutions -
Carleton University,
Lakehead University,
Laurentian University of
Sudbury, McMaster Univer-
sity, University of Ottawa,
Queen's University, Ryer-
son Polytechnical Institute,
University of Toronto,
University of Western On-
tario, University of Wind-
sor, Wilfrid Laurier Univer-
sity and York University -
will be participating in the
program.
Students' work is closely
supervised by university
faculty and is supported by
services available from On-
tario Ministry of Industry
and Tourism specialists in
technology, marketing and
service industries.
As it is not intended this
service compete with
private consulting firms,
businesses eligible for the
service must not be in a
position to engage
professional consultants.
Cost of the service is
borne by the ministry,
although a nominal fee is
charged to the businesses
using it.
Companies wishing to
learn more about the
program should contact On-
tario Ministry of Industry
and Tourism offices in Ot-
tawa, Thunder Bay, Sud-
bury, Kingston, St.
Catharines, Kitchener, Lon-
don, Toronto (Willowdale)
and Windsor.
If more convenient, firms
may contact the faculty of
business administration at
the university closest to
them. The faculty member
responsible for the program
will be able to provide ad-
ditional information.
