The Junior Agriculturali program, sponsored by t Ontario Ministry o Agriculture and Food, giv young people from non -far homes the opportunity learn about farming. Marilyn Sewell, progra supervisor, says student will be placed on 300 com mercial farms throughou the province. Attempts wi be made to locate student within a 100 -mile radius o their homes. During the nine -wee period beginning June 19 the students, under th direction of the farmer, wi take part in the .daily ac tivities of the farm. Hours o work can be long an irregular, depending on th farm activities and weather The junior agriculturalist will be given a daily trainina allowance of $11. Room an board is provided by the hos farmers. Host farmers are required to pay $5" of the trainin allowance and provide room and board. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food provides $6 per day. The program has proved to be a popular one in the past six years. There were more than 900 applications last year. Students are selected on the basis of their willingness to learn and to work. Students without farm ex- perience are preferred. Applications for the program can be obtained from high school guidance counselor and from local of- fices of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Deadline for applications is May 1.
