Zurich Flyers drop two games

After four consecutive wins,
the Zurich Flyers dropped two
in a row in South Huron Hockey
League action this week.
On Sunday afternoon the hard-
hitting Shipl<a Colonials edged
the Flyers 5-4 in a rough contest
which saw 67 minutes in pen-
alties handed out.
The first period saw only one
goal as Glen Overholt scored
his 10th of the season from Dick
Bedard, at 12;02.
In the second period, Dan
Dalton deflected a shot from
Larry Laye to tie the score, at
Zurich Peewees

The Zurich Peewees cause up
vtiitli two more big victories last
week, as they trounced Bayfield
12-0 and then edged Scaforth
3-1 on Saturday night,
Against Bayfield the local -
squad scored six goals in the
first, one in the second and then
added five more in the third,
Marksmen for the Zurich crew
were hris and here Bedard,
Jim ;Willer; and Robert ldillert,
all 1,ith two each, and Jeff
Mckinnon, Pat Regie;, Gerard
Masse and Len \'anWondcren,
with one each.
In Seaford' the locals scored
once in each period to register
their 3-1 victory. Robert Wirier;,
Gerard Masse and Len VanWond-
eren were the marksmen. Sea -
forth cause up with their lone
:gal in the first session.
9:40, Persistence paid off for
Ron Rader as he put the puck
in the net at 12:10, with help
from Richard Fisher and Jim
Racier, to give Zurich the lead
going into the third period.
The Flyers wnet ahead by two
early in the final period on an
unassisted effort by Ron Desjard-
ine. Then Shipl<a carne alive
and struck for four straight goals
Stan Lovie, Dave Turner, Dan
Dalton and John Becker scored
within seven minutes to give
the Colonials a two -goal lead.
Ron Desjardine put Zurich
back in the game at 14.40
on his second goal of the gauze.
Joe Arnold turned aside 30
Flyer shots, as he held off the
Flyers late in the third period.
Glen Gascho carne up with anoth
er good game as he stopped
Be of 42 shots.
On Monday night the Flyers
blew a two -goal lead in the
second period as the Exeter
Mohawks skated to an 8-5 win.
Exeter led 1-0 after the first
period on a hard slap shot that
beat goaltender Percy Bedard,
Zurich pulled into a two goal
lead as Ron Desjardine scored
twice less than a minute apart.
Pat Bedard and Ron Rader
scored for Zurich in the second,
However, the Flyers salvaged
only a tie by the end of the
second as Brad Datars and Mike
Cushman tied it up"
The third period belonged
to the Mohawks as they outscor-
ed the Flyers 4-1. Terry Bourne,
Murray Glanville, Brad Datars
and Gus Brown were the Exeter
marksmen as Glen Overholt got
ZPS take part floor hockey

On Friday, November 29,
the girls of Zurich i'ublic
School participated in a floor
hockey tournament at the
South Iluron District lligli
School. We played the follow-
ing schools, Ilensall. McCurdy,
Usborne Central, Exeter, and
Stephen Cenrral.
Our first gauze was played
against Ilensall.. There were
no goals scored. In the second
game we played against
McCurdy and again there were
no goals scored.
Parti O'Brien opened the
game with a quick goal against
Usborne. Three Ininutes later
Usborne scored a goal which

In our forth gauze we played
against Exeter Public School.
In the first minute of play
Daryl Rawlings scored our first
goal. Exeter then came back
and scored three quick goals
to win the game.
In our last game against
Stephen Central we put Darl-
ene Oesch in net and let Cindy
O"Brien play in her position.
Cindy opened the game with
a quick goal. Then a few sec-
onds later she came back and
scored her second goal of the
game. Jullie I3rown-scored the
third goal. There were no goals
for Stephen. Exeter Public won
the championship, while our
Zurich team tied for second
place.
The team consists of the
following players: Heather
Riddell, Brenda Riddell, Brenda
Miller, Judy Gingerich, Eliza-
beth Datars, Erryn Shephard,
Pain O'Brien, Darlene Oesch,
Maureen Erb, Linda Rawlings,
Daryl Rawlings, Jullie Brown,

Lisa 1-lamather and Cindy
O'Brien.
Boys place fourth

Six South IIuron Elementary
schools competed at the ann-
ual floor hockey tournaiuent
at J.A. D. McCurdy Public
School on November 29. Our
Floor hockey team tied one
game, won one gauze, and
lost four games. Here are the
scores of the game: Ilensall 3 -
Zurich 3; ,McCurdy ::' - Zurich
1; Zurich .1 - Usborne 1; Exeter
5 - Zurich 1; Stephen - Zur-
ich 1.
McCurdy won the play-off
game 2-1. The game went into
three minutes overtime. In
sudden death we lost on a pen-
alty shot. Zurich's team cattle
in fourth place. Our team was
proud of our place.
