Zurich Flyers win two more;
host Shipka Sunday afternoon

On Friday night the hard-
skating Zurich Flyers downed
their arch rivals, Shipka Bears,
6-3. Zurich were not long
finding the mark as Rod Chap-
man scored from Ron Rader and
Rick Grenier with the game
only 24 second old. Stan Lovie
tied it up at 1:15 on a unassist-
ed goal. However, only 16
second later Zurich took the
lead for good as Glen Overholt
continued his scoring streak
with his first of two goals.
Ron Rader trade it 3-1 on a
neat passing play front Rod
Chapman and Pat Bedard, who
played a strong game at
centre for the Flyers as he displ-
ayed his tenatious checking
ability and his quickness on
face-offs as he won 19 of 23
for the night. In the second
period Zurich outscored Shipka
with Bob Merrier drilling the
puck past the Shipka goalie
on a pass front Kevin Mckinnon.
Shipka's second goal of the
game caste at 15:50 with Pave
Turner slipping it past Glen
Gascho, who turned in another
steady performance in the Zur-
ich net.
With only 44 seconds left in
the second period Glen Overholt
knocked in the rebound on a
shot from Derek O'Brien to
stake it 5-2.
The third period showed each
team scoring one with the Zur-
ich goal coming at 10:30 as Rod
Chapman scored his second from
Pat Bedard and Rick Grenier.
The final goal of the gauze was
at 12:30 when Larry Laye, put
it in the net with help from Jim
Roffman and Bill Bowden.
There were twenty penalties
assessed with the Flyers draw-
ing eleven of theta. Zurfeh had
42 shots on Joe Arnold who held
off the Flyers, especially in
the third period, while Gascho
turned aside 35 shots. Again
coach Merner praised the work
of his defensive core with spec-
ial ole ntion going to Jini Ranier
and Derek O'Brien.
ZURICH 8 - CENTRALIA 5
On Monday night Zurich made
it four in a row as they beat the
Centralia College 8-5, The
game' was much closer than the
score indicated as Zurich did
not lead the gauze until late in
the second period.
Zurich opened the scoring at
6:43 on a shot from the point
by Rick Grenier. However, the
College took the lead on two
goals by Dennis Whiteside at
8:48 and 11:49. Zurich tied it up
at 12:38 on a goal by Jim Ratner
from Pat Bedard and Ron Rader.
The College went ahead again
at 14:49 with Fred Munro scoring
on a power play.
In the second period the Fly -
were only on the ice 47
seconds when Ray Weido banged.

his third goal of the game at
9:56. Zurich battled back to
tie the score once more at 11:32
as Dick Bedard drilled a shot

The College took the lead
for the last time on their last
goal of the gaine with Murray
Kerr slipping it past Percy Bed-
ard. Ray Weido tied it up at
15:47 on his second goal from
Desjardine and Overholt.
Overholt got what proved to be
the go-ahead goal at 19:21
with Farquhar and Desjardine.

The federal government has
not paid 1973 crop two price
wheat money to the Ontario
Wheat Producers' Marketing
Board for payment to producers
as promised.
Marketing Board chairman,

November 15 for distribution
to Ontario wheat producers.

win two
The Zurich Peewees opened
their season on a winning note
last week as they trounced
Grand Bend 17-2, and then
turned around and posted a 4-2
victory over Seaforth.
Against Grand Bend the local
squad banged in six goals in
the first period, added seven
more in the second, and then
finished off with four more in
the third. Grand Bend scored
one in both the first and third
sessions.
Marksmen for Zurich were
Kerry Bedard, Len Van Wonder -
en, Kris Bedard and Jirn Willert
with three each, while Robert
Willert banged in two. Greg
Kirk, Gerard Masse and Mark
Regier each blinked the red
light once.
Against Seaforth the locals
scored two goals in both the
first and third periods, while
the visitors scored once in the
first and once in the third.
Tutt Willert sparked the Zur-
ich attack with two goals,
while Greg Kirk and Gerard
Masse both found the range
once.
