Correspondent: Mrs. Ervin Rader
In honor of their parent's
50th wedding anniversary, the
children held open house Sun-
day, November 24, when over
150 neighbours and friends call-
ed to extend their best wishes.
The Messners have four child-
ren, namely, Helmuth, Martha
Frieda and Anna. Present for
the occasion were Mrs. Hel-
muth Messner, Carol and Ang-
ela; Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Fonger (Martha) and Michael;
Mrs. Frieda Nielson, David,
Norma Jean, and Jim; and Mrs.
Anna Wissing. They also have
four great grandchildren.
Fred Messner married Anna
Wagner in Feuerback, Germany
in November 1924. They were
distressed by the rising costs
in Germany and leaving Anna
behind, Fred came to Canada
to see if things were better.
He settled in Dashwood and
sent for his wife and they have
been residents of Canada ever
since. They have been loyal
members of Zion Lutheran
Church since 1928. Both Mr.
and Mrs. Messner are enjoying
fairly good health.
In honor of the occasion,
the children had flowers on the
altar Sunday morning. The
grandchildren sponsored the
Lutheran Hour on CKNX and Mr
and Mrs. Messner donated to
the building fund of Zion
Lutheran Church.
UNUSUAL PLANT GIFTS
If you give plants for Christ-
mas, surprise your friends by
presenting something different,
such as a mixed pan, suggests
Ontario Ministry of Agricult-
ure and Food horticulturist,
D.M. Sangster.
Consider arrangements part-
icularly appropriate for Christ-
mas --a single red poinsettia,
surrounded by a ring of white
chrysanthemums, for example.
Also effective would be a mix-
ed pan that includes several
kinds of foliage plants, or an
ornamental pepper plant,
asparagus fern, a Geranium, a
Begonia, and some coleus or
dusty miller.
