Flashing signal for Bayfield
(by Milvena Erickson)
The controversial curve on
Highway 21 at Clan Gregor
Square in the Village of Bay-
field will get a flashing signal
light in the near future. This
information was received by
the council at their regula»
meeting Monday evening. Two
letters were received, one
from R.E. McKinley, MP and
one from Jack Riddell, MPP,
both with attached copies of
a letter from the Hon. John
Rhodes, Minister of Transport-
ation and Communication stat-
ing the area had been reviewed
and he agreed that a flashing
signal was needed.
Correspondence also included
a letter from the County Clerk
that the number of electors in
the Village is 774; a letter from
the Township of Hay informing
council that Charles Rau, of
R.R.2, Zurich, had been accl-
aimed as a member of the Hur-
on County Board of Education,
representing Separate School
supporters, and received a re-
search report written by Dr.
R.M. Quigley and Dr. J.H.L.
Palmer, Faculty of Engineering
Sciences, U.W.O. London
entitled "Groyne Installation
of Sloped Movements and Toe
Erosion" which had been carr-
ied out very effectively three
miles south of Bayfield.
Council was notified of a
Public Hearing on the Internat-
Tonal Joint Commission (USA
and Canada) on Water levels in
the Great Lakes to be held on
Friday, November 22, in the
Holiday Inn in Owen Sound.
There will be two sessions,
the first at 2 p. n. and the
second at 8 p.m.
Reeve Oddleifson reported
he had been in conversation wit'
Ed Jarmain, president of London
TV Cable, and learned that a
new study, Electro -optics, is
being conducted for cable TV
programming. This is not a
proven thing, so no costs, etc.,
were available; but council is
still pursuing all aspects of
trying to obtain cable TV. At
present it doesn't look too hope-
ful because of the terrific costs
involved to cable it this dist-
ance.
In other business approval
was given to Mrs. Ed Reid to
hook into a drilled well on the
Featherstone property on Louisa
Street with the usual guidelines
regarding depth of pipe,
enclosures under driveways etc.
and under the supervision of the
road foreman, John Lindsay.
Letters are to be sent, to Bob
McKinley and Jack Riddell
thanking them for their inter-
vention with the MTC regarding
the curve on Highway 21 and
also a letter to the Ontario
Housing Corporation asking for
an updated survey.

Urge teachers to attend course
(by Wilma Oke)
Separate School teachers in
Huron and Perth counties will
be encouraged by the Huron -
Perth County Roman Catholic
Separate School Board to attend
family life courses at Waterloo
University during the summer
holiday period with the board
paying their tuition fees.
The special training is requir-
ed for the teachers to instruct
their students in the family
life course which the board
started last spring for Grade 8
students and hopes to continue
again this school term and even
expand it.
At the board meeting in
Seaforth Tuesday night Trustee
Vincent Young of Goderich
outlined the recommendations
to the board from the Family
Life Advisory Committee which
included: That the family life
course be continued at the Grad.
8 level over an extended per-
iod of time in order to provide
more opportunity for greater
indepth discussion and present-
ation: that a pilot project be
initiated in Grade 7 in at least
one school; that serious consid-
eration be given to the engage-
ment of a co-ordinator to int-
egrate religion, guidance and
health in conjunction with
family life; that if a co-ordin-
ator is engaged, consideration
be given to a pilot project in
the primary division; and that
teachers continue to be encour-
aged by the board to attend
family life courses.
"If the program is to be a
success, we need a co-ordinat-
or, " Mr. Young stated and
Superintendent of Education
John Vintar said he agreed.
While agreeing with the need
of a co-ordinator, Howard
Shantz of Stratford said he
hoped the program would get
started earlier this year. "We
seem to wait so long to get
going on it, " he stated.
The board will study the
recommendations at the next
board meeting on November 25
and in the meantime consider
possible persons to recommend
Mannerly
maidens
The seventh meeting of the
Mannerly Maidens was held on
November 13, at 7:30 at the
home of Martha Neeb.
We planned a tea party to
be held on November 25 at
7:30, at the Township Hall.
It will be a formal tea to
which the mothers and a friend
are invited. We are all to bring
sandwiches, squares or cookies.
The discussion was entitled,
"Hospitality in the Club, "
Etiquette at banquets and dinn-
ers and many occasions."
Hospitality includes being on
time for meetings, making a
guest feel welcome, and list-
ening politely to the speakers.
Etiquette for many occasions
include men walking on the
outside of the sidewalk. This
custom was started in England
when women used to throw
garbage off their balconies onto
the street or sidewalk. If the
woman was on the inside she
would never get hit.
The group work consisted of
all the girls working on the
skit we are to present on
Achievement Day, which takes
place on January 5 in the Zuric'
Public School Auditorium.
The meeting was then adjournec

The Board will apply to the
carrier of the board's group
insurance plan for $50, 000
additional term insurance on
the life of Mr. Vintar to repl-
ace the personal policy for the
same amount with another
company. In the meantime
the board will renew the exist-
ing policy for $50, 000 term
insurance for the period Octob-
er 17 to December 31, 1974
until the first request is approv-
ed.
The board approved the work-
ing drawing and specification
presented by architect Brian
Garrett of Kyles, Kyles and
Garrett, Stratford for the 2, 000
square foot addition of a library
resource centre at St. Patrick's
School at Kinkora, which is
estimated to cost $50, 000.
Mr. Shantz, chairman of
the by-law committee, pres-
ented the trustees with a numb-
er of changes in the by-laws
covering board policy which
included the rules covering the
number of trustees to attend
conferences and the appoint-
ment of a hiring agent, but in
both areas could only agree
to disagree. The trustees are
to study the recommendations,
write in any changes they woulc
like and nail to Mr. Shantz
who will re -introduce thein at
next meeting.
