Experiment ends
at Goderich
An experiment in open area
teaching at Victoria Public
School, Goderich, will be
concluded near the end of Nov-
ember with the arrival of three
portable classrooms.
Initially it was fek that the
experiment should be conducted
by combining two grade three
classes on one large area under
the direction of two teachers
who would adopt a "team
approach" to the teaching of
the children involved. Although
the education of the children
has not been adversely affected,
certain physical problems
caused by the demolition and
reconstruction of part of the
school make it impracticable
to continue.
The chief problems encount-
ered have been the difficulty
in raising the lighting intensity
to a satisfactory standard and
the probable necessity of spend-
ing a considerable amount of
money on accoustic material.
to "dampen" the sound.
The board has, therefore,
made arrangements to lease
three portable classrooms for
the duration of the building
project at a cost of $195 per
month per unit. These class-
rooms will be used by the two
grade three classes and one
special education class. Anoth-
er special education class and
the library will remain in the
gymnasium for the duration of
the building program.
