Century farms
"Century Farm, " a centen-
nial sign project initiated by
the Junior Farmers' Association
in 1967, identifies farms in
Ontario that have been owned
by descendents of the same
family for 100 years or more.
With considerable renewed int-
erest in the project by owner
families now eligible, as well
asthe need for replacement of
original signs, the Junior Farm-
ers' Association of Ontario is
undertaking the project again
as one of its current activities.
The new signs - 16 by 19
inches and pre -drilled for hang-
ing --are constructed of high
quality, satin coat steel. They
are printed on both sides, with
the only difference from those
distributed in 196'7 being that
the year is removed.
Persons wishing to apply for
one of the signs must meet
the qualifications established
for the project. Each farm
must have been owned by direct
descendents of the same family
for 100 years or more. In addit-
ion, the farm must have some-
one living on it and still be in
active production. Incorporated
farms are eligible if they are
still owned by the same family.
A county or district supervising
committee will make the final
cbcisions on the eligibility of
a farm in each area.
The signs will be sold to
qualifying owners by the Junior
Farmers' Association of Ontario
at cost price - $7. 00, subject
to change without notice.

The new catalytic converters
need lead-free gas to function
properly. Guess that's why
they're calling this "the year
they got the lead out."
A catalytic converter changes
carbon monoxide and
hydrocarbons in auto exhaust
into harmless carbon dioxide
and water, through a process
known as "chemical ox-
idation."
The effect is the same as "bur-
ning up" the pollutants, but it
doesn't generate the flame
and radiant heat of regular
burning. Most of the con-
verters use platinum and
palladium as a catalyst.
Some manufacturers say the
converters should be ade-
quate!y efficient for five years
or 50,000 miles.
Catalytic converters are ex-
pected to save more than the
environment. Savings as high
as $100 a year are mentioned,
in improved fuel economy and
reduced maintenance.
Come see how good the new cars
look, and how well they handle. You'll
sell yourself!

LADDER CARE
A ladder is only as goos as
the use it receives. Don't place
a ladder in front of doors open-
ing toward it unless the door is
blocked open, locked or guard-
ed. At a window opening,
attach a board across the back
of the ladder at the top for
support. Ladders should never
be placed on boxes, barrels or
other unstable bases to obtain
additional height. Inspect your
ladder frequently. See that
the joints between all fixed
parts are tight, all hardware
and fittings securely attached
and that the movable parts
operate freely without binding
or undue play.
