There is every chalice of a
gasoline tax being imposed by
the Ontario government next
year, the receipts to be used
on the roads. As long as the tax
is placed only on roads using
gasoline machinery, there is
no fairer method of taxation.
As it is today, the man who
runs his auto 1, 000 miles a year
pays as much as the man who
runs 10, 000 miles.
"Babe" Siebert, of Kitchener
Senior OHA hockey team last

was offered a bonus of $70 to

clerk, will attend a course
provided by the University of
Western Ontaric for municipal
officers.
Twelve hundred people were
fed at the recent annual fowl
supper at the Lutheran Church
and there was plenty left over
for another 200.
The little and seeruinly anti-
quated fire engine of Zurich
again measured up to all its
requirements when it was rec-
ently called to the farm of Mr.
Clifford Talbot, Drysdale.
The fire was in a straw stack
near the barn.
Rev. Earl J. Treusch, who
was recently ordained into the
ministry of ttie Lutheran Church,
was installed as pastor of St.
Peter's Lutheran Church, Milv-
erton, by the Rev. E. Turkheim
Zurich.
Jack Taylor had his hand
injured when it caught in the
gear of a polisher he was oper-
ating at Cook Bros. Mills re-
cently.

Catholic. Church, London, died
suddenly Sunday night of a heart
attack.
The $5, 800 cottage won by
Jack Drysdale, Hensall, at the
CNE in Toronto, has arrived
and the men of the firm which
donated the cottage have erect-
ed the building on the bowling
green. Mr. Drysdale donated
the cottage to the Hensall
Chamber of Commerce as a
community hall.
Jerome Durand, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Maurice Durand, Zur-
ich, was married in Holy Cross
Church, London, to Grace Rob-
bins. The couple will live in
London.

The debt on the modern
Community Centre in Dash-
wood, opened only last year,
has been wiped out and a
small surplus of funds is in the
kitty. This nearly impossible
fete has been accomplished
through the working co-operat-
ion of public -minded citizens
with a goal in sight.
The Zurich Parks Board pres-
ented the plans for the propos-
ed Centennial Project at Tues-
day night's meeting of Zurich
Village Council. Spokesman
Don O'Brien indicated that the
total cost of .a building to be
erectedwould be approximately
$6, 500. The project was turned
down by the council in favor
of a new fire hall.
Miss Kathleen Hess, Bride -
elect of this month, has been
honored at several functions
planned by many of her friends
relatives and associates.
