"One of the first chemicals introduced many years ago is still one of the best for broad- leaved weed control in home lawns, " says R.A. Fleming, horticultural specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. "Most broad-leaved weeds are susceptible to 2,4-D. The basic rate for control of lawn weeds with 2, 4- D is 16 ounces per acre of the active part of the preparation (approx- mately one-third ounce active per 1, 000 square feet). The chemical 2, 4-D or 2, 4-D plus mecoprop or dicamba should be used as recommended on the label to prevent damage to lawns and nearby garden plants. Dandelion and plantain are usually killed with one applic- ation of the chemical. Others, such as yarrow, black medic and ribgrass may require two or three treatments at 10 -day intervals for complete control. The hard ones, such as ground ivy or creeping Charlie, the chickweeds and round -leafed mallow, may require several treatments, continuing right FM. SAT. through the growing season, to eliminate them completely. Mr. Fleming points out that 2, 4-D compounds work best in May, June September, and October, when the weeds are growing vigorously. •1 JUNE 7-8' DAY OF THE JACKAL / PLUS - CHARLIE VARRICK SUN.- ONLY INN Oftlefr VI1ii JN • Itt.rtu(i9 off• JUNE •g ELACI[ BELT JONES #570 11$10" DRIVE-IN • GODERICH HWY 8 AT CONCESSION RD 4 • PHONE 524 9981 LOCATED ON HWY NO. 4 SOUTH OF CLINTON AT VANASTRA MEN'S- BOYS' -LADIES'- GIRLS' and BABY'S WEAR :'ARD 000DS-FURNITURE- MATTRESSES -PAINT SEWING MACHINES -SMALL APPLIANCES -LAMPS MONDAY NITE. 6-9 P.M.
