Country fair huge success Clear, sunny weather and eye-catching "Chicken Bar -B - Q" signs along local roadways lured over a thousand visitors to the second annual country fair held on the grounds of the Huron Country Playhouse on Sunday afternoon, May 2. A one hundred percent inc- rease in attendance over last year, when inclement weather dampened the event, brought a net profit of $1, 375' from sales of arts, crafts, baking good, plants and the auctioneering of antique items. Parkhill's 13i11 Elliot conducted the bargain -filled auction and he had many visitors leaving with loaded arms. Distinguished visitors included Jack Riddell, MPP (Huron County Riding), Bill Franks, MP for LamIton-Middlesex-London, Stratford Festival star Mervyn Blake, actor Maurice Evans, and several other members of th( Playhouse company to be seen on stage this summer. Civic lea- ders and business people from the region participated in the delicious chicken barbeque dinner and rummaged among and bought the many books, furnishings and objects d'art. The fair was sponsored by the Playhouse board of trustees and was organized by Mrs. Jean Schlegel, of Grand Bend, Mrs Jill Waters, of Parkhill and William Heinsohn, of St. Thomas. Many people from the area supplied goods, ran booths, sold tickets, served food and helped make the event a smash hit. APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF CUSTODIAN and/or SCHOOL BUSS DRIVER At Ude Ste.
