ALL ABOUT BAYFIELD INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRET'THEST VILLAGE LADIES GUILD Trinity Church Ladies Guild met in the Parish Hall on Tues- day, May 14, presided over by Mrs. Lorna Merner in the abs- ence of the President, The scripture lesson was given by Mrs. Vina Parker using the Epistle for Mothering Sunday.. The president Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons sent her thanks to everyone who had helped at the previous card party. Roll call was answered by 13 members. Secretary, Mrs. Greta Scoth- mer read her report of the prev- ious meeting, which was adopt- ed. Card and flower secretary Mrs. Bessie Hulls gave her report of cards and flowers sent out during the month. Treasurer Mrs. Lorna Merner read her report which was approved. It was moved that all outstand- ing bills be paid. Arrangements were Trade for the June meeting at which time a pot -luck supper will be held at the home of Mrs. Ruth Mut- zelburg, on the lake, on June 11, at 4 p.m. All members are to meet at the church at 3:30 p.m. for transportation. Plans for the lunch to be served following the Confirm- ation on June 16 will be made at the June meeting. Plans for a community shower for bride - elect, Colleen Merrier for May 21 were discussed. The meeting closed by the Rector. Mrs. Bessie Hulls provided a lovely lunch. HISTORICAL SOCIETY Mrs. Gwen Pemberton chair- ed the regular meeting of Bay- field Historical Society and brought to the attention of the members several upcoming meetings of interest, May 22 Huron County Branch of the Architectural Conservancy in Clinton; June 15 a bus tour to Midland sponsored by the Coun- ty Society and June 20 to 22 the Ontario Historical Society annual meeting in Kimberley in the Beaver Valley. Mr. Bernard F. Sturgeon, Orangeville, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Sturgeon on Wednesday while on a busin- ess trip to Sarnia, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Watson, Sudbury were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Irwin and Robbie on Thursday night. Mr, and Mrs. Bili Parker spent a few days in Ottawa at the Tulip Festival and at Upper Canada Village at Morrisburg. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Knight, Jackie, Sandy and Kathryn, Toronto, were with his mother, Mrs. G.L. Knight for the hol- iday weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Burt, Ronnie and Timmy, and their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Smith, all of Woodstock were at the Burt family home for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Scotch - mer, Robert, Lori and Carolyn spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. L.W. Scotchmer. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Klaudi and boys, London were at their cottage on Highway 21 for the holiday weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pounder and Mary Beth, Lambeth were at their home in the village for the weekend, joining them were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Fisher of Vanastra and son John and Miss Karen Larson, of London. Mrs. W.E. Morley and son Robert and friend, Mrs. Betty Teller, Cleveland Ohio, were at the Morley home over the long weekend. Mr. Ronald Burt also visited with his sister, Mrs. Morley. Bayfield Senior Citizens joined Goderich Senior Citizens at a very enjoyable evening, Wednesday, May 15, and heard a guest speaker from Stratford, Cards followed the meeting and a lovely lunch was enjoyed. Weekend guests with Mrs. L. B . Smith were her family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowse, Jim, Cathy, Vicki, Jill and Dale, of London and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith, Paris. Mr. and MTS. E.W. Erickson, Andrew, Luanne and Lydia, spent Sunday in Port Huron, Michigan and attended the live broadcast of Roy Mack and the Country Cousins from Duchess Outpost, Lapeer and 24th street. The club is billed as the "Home of Good Country Music" and every two weeks a different band from Nashville, Tenn. are on stage. The decor of Duchess Outpost is most restful; and sillouettes of musical in- struments made from wrought iron are spotted here and there around the walls and with the big square -cut timbers, create and old fashioned and homey atmosphere. Plans are underway again for the Annual Pioneer Park Rummage Sale, for Friday, July 12 with the doors opening at 8 p. m. This annual sale maintains the Pioneer Park for the publics enjoyment. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard F. Sturgeon, Jeff and Rollie, Orangeville, visited with his parents Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Sturgeon and Andrew during the holiday weekend. On Thursday evening, May 16 around 8 p.m. two cars collid- ed at the corner of Highway 21 and Clan Gregor Square. No serious injury was reported, but both cars were fairly extensively damaged. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craig were in Oil City for the week- end as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ross McMichael and Jack. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Guilfoyle and family, Sarnia, and Mr. Norman Brown, Vicky and Craig London were at their respective cottages over the holiday week- end. Mr. Norman F. Cooper, Mount Clemens, Michigan, spent the weekend at his vill- age residence on Clan Gregor Square. Mrs. J.M. Atkinson has ret- urned to her home in the vill- age after visiting in Rochester, Michigan. On her return she was accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Pence and Robert and Mrs. V. McNamara. T During the winter and sum- mer months, it is reasonably easy to keep calf barns at the recommended constant temp- eratures of 50 deg. and 60 to 65 deg. respectively. Ontario dairy farmers are at a disadv- antage in the spring, however, when seasonal temperatures fluctuate widely, both day to day and during the day. "Because of the rapidly changing temperatures in the PAGE 15 T spring, it can be a dangerous time for calves, " warns Bob Lang. Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food dairy cattle specialist. Calves are normally susceptible to pneu- monia and other respiratory pro- blems. But when temperatures outside rise and humidity in- creases, the problem can be more serious.
