Golden Glimpses .... .
May is almost half over and
we are still waiting for that
'bare foot' weather. We are
not lacking those spring showers,
but we could do without those
chilly winds.
Mother's Day here was rather
quiet according to reports that
I have picked up here and there,
however, some of our residents
did enjoy outings with their
families for the day.
The sympathy of residents and
staff is extended to the family
of the late Mrs. Nellie Jarvis.
On Thursday evening, the
members of the Dashwood Inst-
itute had charge of the May
birthday party. Several musical
numbers were presented by the
following people; Mrs. Peter
Martin, Mrs. Don Adams, Mrs.
Ross Love, Mr. Mervin Tiernan,
Mr. Jack Gaiser, Mr. Stan
Haist, Mr. Harry Hoffman and
Mr. Ross Love. Mrs. Mervyn
Tiernan was pianist for the
evening. Following the program
a delicious lunch was served.
Residents celebrating birthday;
during the month of May are
Mrs. Ethel Appleton, Mrs.
Vida Dunn, Mr. Peter Eiseh-
bach, Mrs. Jennetta Finnigan,
Mrs. Gertrude Harris, Mrs.
Emma Kipfer and Miss Ethel
Shaw. Birthday gifts were dist-
ributed to the celebrants. We
are pleased ro welcome Mr.
John Jones, of Exeter.
On Friday afternoon a group
of friends of Mrs. Vida Dunn
from Centralia area gathered
to honour her on her 90th birth-
day. The residents gathered
in the dining room to enjoy the
program being presented. Greet-
ings were brought from the UCW
of Centralia Church by Mrs, Ken
Greb. Miss Ruth Ann Essery play-
ed a piano solo, she also played
a duet with Mrs. Ken Hodgins.

Squire and Mrs. Thelma King
played old tyme numbers,

On Friday evening the resid-
ents gathered in the dining -
room for bingo.
We hope, all of you are plan-
ning to attend the tea and bake
sale on Saturday afternoon in
the dining room from 2 to 4
p. m. All donations of baking
and antique items will be app-
reciated by the Auxiliary.
On Sunday evening, the chap-
el service was conducted by Rev.
George Anderson of Trevitt
Memorial Church, Exeter. Mrs,
Frank Forrest presided at the
organ and accompanied her husb-

Workshop grant
The Honourable Leo Bernier,
Minister of Natural Resources
announces the approval of a
provincial grant in rhe amount
of 51, 000 to the Ausable-Bay-
field Conservation Authority.
to carry out certain renovation
work in the Authority head-
quarters office and workshop.
Over the past two years the
Authority has acquired and
carried out some renovation
work in the Authority office
and workshop in the Town of •
Exeter.
The Authority proposes to
continue its renovation program
of carrying out some minor
alterations ro a small insulated
barn located to the rear of the
main office -workshop building.
The structure will be converted
to serve as a paint shop and
offices for technical and super-
visory staff.
A11 member municipalities
are designated as benefiting and
will bear the Authority's share
of the cost.

Group II and Mrs. Ernest
Koehler, convener, was in
charge of the Mother and
daughter pot luck supper, Wed-
nesday, May 8. Mrs. Arnold
Becker, president, welcomed
everyone and vice-president,
Mrs, Lorne. Genttner pinned
corsages on the honorary mem-
bers, Mrs. Ed Nadiger, Mrs.
Hilda Wein, Mrs. Laura Datars,
and Mrs. Reinhold Miller. Mrs.
Becker also had visited the shut-
in honorary members, Mrs.
Susan Merrier, Mrs. Louis
Restemayer, and Mrs. Alma
Willert and given them cors-
ages. Another honorary mem-
ber Mrs. E.G. Kraft, resides
in London. A toast to the
mothers was given by Jayne
Hayter and Eleanor Salmon ,
replied to by Mrs. Frank Morg-
ret.
A short program was enjoyed
with musical numbers by
Sherrie Stade, piano; Barbara
Rader, aecordian; Barbara and
Carol Rader, piano duet; Mrs.
Morgret and her three daught-
ers, Ruth, Mary and Christine
sang; Mrs. Louella Tiernan
gave a reading. Prizes were
awarded to the oldest mother,
Mrs. Ed Nadiger; youngest
mother, Mrs. Robert Greeg;
daughter with birthday closest
to Mother's Day, Sandra Kraft;
youngest daughter with birth-
day closest ro Mother's Day
Julie Tiernan; lucky plate,
Sherrie Stade.
A brief business meeting
followed. Twenty-seven mem-
bers were present. The Altar
Guild reported 23 visits.
The new Guild is Mrs. Ed
Keller and Mrs. John Rader.
Winners at Bunco which follow-
ed were, mothers, high, Mrs.
Ray Rader; low, Mrs. Ed Nadig-
er; daughters high, Cathy Beck-
er, low, Carol Rader.
Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Gren-
ier who have sold their busin-
