Zurich Atoms win WOAA title

The Zurich Atoms recently
defeated Lions Head winning
the WO.A,A, "E" champion -
ship 2-2.
Police report
On Sunday, at 12.30 a.m. a
car driven by Russel Brown,
of R.R,3, Parkhill, struck a
parked car owned by Harry Shep
herd of Parkhill. Collision oc-
curred at the Dashwood Com-
munity Centre. Damage was
estimated at $150. by Provin-
cial Constable W,G. Glassford.
On Sunday, at 5:15 p.m. a
car driven by Irene Foster, of
Exeter, went out of control on
Sideroad 5, Usborne Township,
and struck a tree. The driver
and eight year old Teresa Foster
received fractures, while six
year old Brenda Foster received
cuts and bruises. Damage was
estimaed at $1, 500. by Const-
able McIntyre.
On Saturday, at 2.05 p.m.
a car driven by Lloyd Keller,
of Huron Park, collided with a
pick-up truck driven by Raymond
Varley, of Crediton. Collision
occurred in Huron Park and
damage estimated at $550 by
Constable Bill Osterloo.
Vandals damaged approxim-
ately $100. worth of glass at the
Oakwood Golf Course this week.
On April 3, a tractor valued
at $150 was stolen from lot 10,
L.R.E. Hay, ownship. The
tractor was later recovered in
Westminister Township and one
person has been charged in con-
nection with the theft. Const-
able Quinn is investigating.
On April 5, a camera and oth
er articles were reported stolen
from Stephen Central School.
The property has been recovered
and four juveniles have been
charged as a result of the thefts.
Constable Lewis is the investig-
ating officer.
On April 6, a vending machin
at the Gulf station in Woodham
was found forced open and app-
roximately $25. in coins were
taken.
On April 6, a wallet was stol-
en from Elaine Foran of Huron
Park,' while she was at the Club
Albatross. The wallet was later
found in the parking lot outside,
minus $20.
The Atoms played Tuesday,
April 2, in Zurich where they
played to a 2-2 tie after a
scoreless 10 -minute overtime
period.
Scorer's in the first period
were Brad Davis for Lions Head
and Jim and Robert Willert
for Zurich.
There was only one goal
scored in the second period and
it was scored by Jerry Caudle
of Lions Head tying the game
attwo all.
Bath teams managed to def-
end their nets in the third per-
iod leading to the ten minute
overtime period. After a score-
less over -time period the game
was ended in a 2-2 draw.
ZURICH 2 - LION'S HEAD 1
Lion's Head were defeated
by a narrow 2-1 margin Thurs-
day night when the local Atom
crew travelled to Lion's Head.
Zurich's two goals were
scored in the first period by
Kris Bedard and Robert Willert
Jerry Caudle starting things
rolling for Lion's Head when
he scored in the second period
but his team failed to catch
up leaving Zurich with a 2-1
victory.
ZURICH 5 - LION'S HEAD 2
The Zurich Atoms gained the
W.O.A.A. "E" title Sunday
afternoon when they defeated
Lion's Head 5-2 in the fourth
game of their series.
The score was tied 1-1 at the
end of the first period after
Kris Bedard scored for Zurich
and Jerry Caudle scored for
the visitors.
After going behind one goal
in the second period the Zurich
crew caught fire and scored
three goals giving them a two
goal lead at the end of the
second period. Marksmen for
Zurich were Robert Willert,
David Erb, and Kris Bedard.
Bedard finished off the scor-
ing in the third period when he
scored the fifth and final goal.
The Atoms seemed to be the
most popular among the minor
teams this season after they
won the "E" championship
and competed in three various
tournaments. They played in

W. 0.A . A . championship, and immediately following the game
they were presented with the trophy emblematic of their victory.

the Seaforth Optimist Tourna-
ment where they were the "B"
runners-up, the Lucan Leprech-
aun Tournament where they
were champs in the "D" divis -
ion and the Brussels Optimist
Tournament where they placed
as runners-up in the "B" divis-
ion. They also played a total
of fifty games during the season
where they came up with 31
wins, 3 ties and 16 losses.
