Mrs. Allan Gascho, represent-
ing the centennial committee
of the village, met with coun-
cil to discuss the future of the
former school bell, and the
distribution of funds left over
from the event. The council
agreed to contact the Huron
County Board of Education reg-
arding the erection of the old
bell at the Zurich Public
School.
A by-law was prepared at the
meeting to authorize the work
on the 1-laberer Drain, from
Goshen street to the Zurich
Public School grounds.
Permission was granted to
Ross Scott Fuels to install three
underground storage tanks at the
garage of Mousseau and Parkins,
on the corner of Victoria and
Main Street. Any damage to
the sidewalks or other municipal
property will be the responsibil-
ity of the contractor.
In other business at the meet-
ing council approved a building
permit in the amount of $200
for S. Bechard, for the renovat-
ions of a porch.
A number of signs reading
"parallel parking only" and "no
parking here to corner" were
ordered, and will be erected at
various locations throughout
the village.
Council agreed to hold a
joint meeting in the near fut-
ure to discuss fire protection
with the Township of Hay.
News of
Varna United Church Women
met in the basement of the
church on Thursday evening
with 16 members and two guests
present. Our president for the
next three months, Ivirs, Charlet
Reid, opened the meeting with
a poem on "Lent". Group II
was in charge of the devotions.
Mrs. George Wilson led in
prayer. A hymn was sung and
followed by the scripture read
by Mrs. Mervyn Hayter. Mrs.
Harvey Hayter then gave a
prayer. Guests Brenda Bonnie
Dowson favoured us with guitar
and singing numbers, "Michael
Row Your Boat Ashore, "."How
Many Roads" and "When the
Saints Come Marching In,"
Mrs. George Wilson then read
a poem on ".Springtime" a read
ing "Christ's Hand Upheld
the Resurrection" and poem on
"Easter Lily." Offering was
taken up by Mrs. Harvey Hay-
ter and dedicated by Mrs. Paul
Morrison.
The business meeting was
then turned over to Mrs. Charles
Reid. Mrs. Harvey Hayter read
the minutes of the last meeting
and the roll call was answered.
Mrs. Charles Reid gave the
treasurers report. A thank -you
note from the Smith family was
read. Mrs. Jane Davidson sent
a thank -you note for the donat-
ion to Father Abram for his
project in India.
It was announced that there
would be a plant sale at our
Mr. and Mrs. Don Manson,
of Toronto, were recent visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Newell
Geiger and Mr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Manson.

Visitor's Day at Alma Coll-
ege is April 13. The Spring
Presbyterial will be held on
May 22, in Seaforth.
There were 45 calls made to
the sick and shut-in during the
month of March.

The meeting was closed with
the Lord's Prayer. Lunch was
served by hostesses Mrs. Mervin
Johnston, Mrs. Bill Chessell,
Mrs. John Ostrom and Mrs,
Ivan McCiymont.
CARD PARTY
The Orange Lodge hela their
hi -weekly card party on Friday
night. Winners were as follows
high ladies, Mrs. Aaron Fisher;
low ladies, Mrs. Bob Taylor;
high men's, Mervyn Hayter;
