Clifford Salmon pass- ed away suddenly last Friday, while working at the residence of Harry Hayter, in his Goth year. Mr. Salmon served as a vill- age trustee for over 22 years, and a member of .the Dashwood Fire department for 24 years. He was also an elder of Zion Lutheran Church, and a mem- ber of the Dashwood Chamb- er of Commerce. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Marie) Tiernan, of Exeter, Mrs. Ron (RuthAnne) Merner, of Dashwood, Mrs. Brian ( Margaret) Hogarth, of Hensall, and Eleanor, at home; one stepson, Gerald, of Seaf- ortli; one sister, Kilts. Robert (Jeanette) Scott, of London; and two brothers, Hubert and Norman, both of London. There are also seven grandchildren ane one great grandchild. The body rested at the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Horne, Dashwood, until Monday noon, then to Zion Lutheran Church where the service tool< place at 2 p.m. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Church Cem- etery. Rev. F. THURSDAY, APRIL 11,__1974 ALL ABOUT AYFIELD INTERESTING HAPPENINGS IN ONTARIO'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Walter Layton celebrated their Glst wedding anniversary of their marriage on Sunday with a turkey dinner with their family at their home in the village. Mrs. Layton is the former Mary Walters. They were married on April 2, 1913 at the bride's home; farmed for 47 years before retiring to Bayfield in 19G1. The couple has one daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Verna) Hildebrand Seaforth; and three sons, Edward Layfon, Clinton; Glen Layton, and Keith Layton, both of R.R. 5, Clinton; several grandchild- ren and great-grandchildren. The couple are in good health and thoroughly enjoy life taking a very keen interest in the community. Among the many congratulatory messages received was a telephone call from Mrs. Layton's sister, Mrs. Jack Horton in Doddsland, Saskatchewan. PERSONALS Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Gertrude 0. Gairdner, who passed away Thursday, April 4. John McLeod, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McLeod, flew from London to Toronto and on to London, England on Friday. While on the continent a trip is planned to Scotland and hope- fully to Paris, France. John promises us a report of his trip when he returns. Mrs. G. L. Knight was a guest of her cousin Miss Rhea Stirling in London from Monday to Thursday. Visiting with Mrs. Knight for the weekend were her grandsons Bill and Gil Lar- imer and Miss Ruth Fultrmann, of Toronto. During the mid-term school break, Catherine Ann, daught- er of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd West- lake was in England with the Theatre Arts Group from the High School in Goderich. The group were billited at Carnegie College and attended several Theatre Productions in London. They also staged two plays while there, Mr. and Mrs. W , C, Parker, Charlie, Kim and Jennifer, London were with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Sykes, Jeanette and Jack of Oil City visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craig. Mr. Norman F. Cooper, Mount Clemens, Michigan, spent tfie weekend with his wife at their village residence. Obituary EDWARD G. THIEL A native of the Zurich area, Edward George Thiel, London, passed away at Victoria Hospit- al, London, on Friday, April 5, in his 64th year. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thiel. Surviving are his wife, the former Leni Fassbender; a son, Edward H. Thiel, Sarnia; and three sisters, Mrs. Ray (Verlyn) Fisher, R.R.3, Zurich; Mrs. Gertrude Fleiscbauer, Zurich; and Ivirs. Earl (Martha) Heywood, of Wingham. There is also one grandson. The funeral service was held on Monday, April 8, at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, London, with interment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Goshen Line,. Rev. A. Rutherford, Kitchen- er visited for the weekend with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. W,D, Armstrong and family. An Easter Sunday Service is planned for 11 a, m. in Knox Presbyterian Church, Bayfield, with Mr. Michael Farris conduc- ting the service. Miss Wendy Greer, Laurier University, Waterloo, spent the weekend with her parents and sister, Mr: and Mrs, Bert Greer and Patti. 4-H CLUB (by Patti Greer) The third and fourth meeting of the Bayfield Beauticians 4-H Club was held at the home of Mrs, L. Healy. On March 2'7 we talked about one good groom ing habit I will try to follow, and about bedroom storage. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. M. Garrett on Wednesday, April 10. A.C.W. MEETING The Trinity Church Anglican Church Women was held in the Rectory on Thursday, Apri114. Sixteen members were present. President Mrs. E. Earl chaired the meeting and the Thankoff- ering was received, which was very gratifying. The ladies dis- cussed their Hasty Notes project, undertaken by them to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the church in 1974.
